What do SWA new hire base assignments look like lately, and how does it work?

If it's all Oakland out of class, then disregard questions 1 and 2.

1. At what point in indoc/training do assignments happen?

2. Who picks first?

3. I'm driving distance from MCO. Am I looking at years before landing there?

4. What is the next best base for an MCO guy, or does it really not matter since commuting is commuting?

Thanks.
You’ll get IOE and the rest of that month built for you in a base of your preference, or nearby.

You’ll bid for your first full month through the normal monthly vacancy bid, which closes the last few days of the month before bidding starts. Ex, April’s vacancy closed Feb 24.

Seniority within your class is by DOB.

I’d expect to get OAK, LAX or BWI and sometimes something in between. At the rate we are hiring, you’ll get out of OAK within 1 or 2 months.

For an MCO guy, realistically you should plan on HOU or BWI being your best alternatives and if hiring keeps up it may not be too long before you can get MCO. Before the music stopped, guys were getting it within 6 months.

hope that helps

If you're living near MCO and going to be going out of there, probably BWI/MDW/HOU in that order.

Id guess about 6 months to hold MCO as a current new hire as long s hiring continues. If it stops, Orlando stops.

Too soon to say, displaced pilots are still making their way back to their preferred bases. HOU goes junior to DAL and I’d guess that HOU will be possible within 4-6 months once the dust from the past displacements has settled and things return to normal. DAL maybe closer to a year? Both are guesses

I was in the hiring boom a few years ago. It took three months or four months to get HOU after IOE. I was in BWI for those months.

it was a different day, but I was able to drop quite a few reserve blocks in BWI and pick up trips or reserve in Houston. I think I only went to to BWI four or five times during that period. That will be a little harder to do now but still possible.

If you work the system hard, you can improve your quality of life significantly.
