I think most airlines do incapacitated pilot training. I think all we did in initial was a cat3 where the Ca didn’t respond and we landed.
Hopefully we get some real training on these situations in the future. There are plenty situations where one pilot continued and landed when the other became incapacitated. |
“Gray hair Ex Navy SWA CA invites a NJ pilot to assist in landing while FO is passed out”
“he was just so cool and calm and let me sit up front in a real airliner. I was just in awe at the privilege to help” said the starry eyed NetJets pilot. Not to anyone on this thread specifically, but based on some comments I’ve see , Y’all just hate FOs. If the above headline were true you’d all clap at such a sage and wise captain for using all resources to save Jr. “class act right there” you’d all say. The FO was the PIC regardless of which seat they were in. They didn’t give up control, they made a command decision to use all resources to safely land the airplane. This isn’t hard. |

But it is nice to have another pilot run the radio while the FO is under stress. A second set of eyes and ears are good.
I think what will be addressed is leaving the seat to do the swap out with the captain. Hopefully SWA will address procedures for this type of event in training. |

BS, but nice gaslighting, though. It has nothing to do with whose seat it was, but whether it was the proper procedure. Many airlines prohibit what he did, as far as I remember this scenario didn’t come up in training at SWA.
We aren’t taking about any airline but SWA, and in this situation a command decision was made and you’ll just have to be ok with it until we have a policy that specify prohibits it. And I do agree with your above post, we do need some specific training and guidance. But You know I’m right, if the roles were reversed this wouldn’t even be a discussion except good job cap and way to work through an emergency. |

If someone disagrees with you it isn’t gaslighting and a little satire can prove a point.

He or She or They probably had to go into a safe space and head bob for a couple hrs. I wouldn’t have let Mr NetJets up there. Not interested in doing IOE in this case. I would’ve landed from the left seat and logged some PIC while demanding captain rates for the flight. But if the FO thought he or she or they could use an extra set of eyes up there with him or her or they, it’s all good with me. (sarcasm sprinkled around this post) |

I guess it really doesn't matter what we all think cause the FAA gonna decide if this was safe or legal. BTW are the NetJet pilots in CASS? Asking cause I don't know.
Says they are KCM |

Did SW pay for a tiller on both sides? Why even swap seats?
