It’s contract negotiations and people are edgy. Try living on $35k/yr for 7 yrs at a regional because your mgt refuses to negotiate. Try being told by your CEO to rent instead of buy because he keeps closing bases every 6 mos. Try getting food stamps because your wage isn’t enough to feed a family.
This place has issues lately…but it isn’t as awful as you make it out to be. Everyone at every airline has gripes…even the Deltoids with their new contract.
Give it a rest already….or do yourself a favor and bail for the 1st upgrade elsewhere.

The negativity on this board is downright toxic at times. I'm so in training, so my input doesn't hold much say, but I will say that I have friends at united that would say the same negative things about their employer, especially during contract negotiations.
If I was in your shoes I would consider united a well and go where you feel more comfortable. If you really need to make big bugs or upgrade, then united. If money isn't the bottom line for you and you don't care about upgrade then this could be a good place. So far everyone has been fantastic to work with here.

No doubt about it, the training center is nothing but beautiful unicorns farting triple rainbows. It’ll wear off if you’re normal. If it doesn’t wear off, you’re probably an 81’er.
To keep your head from exploding, I will add that 95 percent of our plumbers are great to work with.

That has been the line here for 50 years. It was one of GK favorite lines to the captain upgrades. I am pretty sure I will be getting paid 35 percent less than my peers due to you and the 40 percent like you that will vote yes to anything.
How many more days till the stock is in the 20s. They are working hard to ruin this airline .

Most everyone here will tell you to go to United. If you wanna make big bucks at SWA, you can but you're gonna have to work harder for it. If I was in your shoes, I'd be in class at United at the end of the month.
Also though, dont make life changing and career decisions based on what someone said on a forum. You really need to reach out to people that work at each place and have a conversation about what their work life is like and how each one would work for you.

I just turned 49 and currently hold a CJO for both SWA and UA and have the exact same class date for both at the end of this month. We do not intend to move from LAS for at least a year and I do not want to commute, however we are thinking of moving to Northern AZ (Sedona area) within a few years which leads me to favoring SWA and getting based in PHX at that point. Thoughts?

A very real consideration should be how soon do you want to upgrade, and are you willing to commute in order to chop YEARS off your upgrade wait and secure your spot on the list while things are good.
At United, LAX narrowbody CA upgrade is only a year. Anyone willing to commute and living in the West should not disregard that as a real option. Will United's new contract convince enough senior FOs to quit bypassing which will slow upgrades? I dunno. Right NOW however, LAX CA in the A320 and 737 is available immediately off probation. Living in LAS or PHX that could be a big consideration when compared to SWA's 7+ yr upgrade. I can't imagine SWA's upgrades getting much sooner than they are now. As soon as hiring tapers off, our very flat retirement curve and single fleet type will push upgrades right back up to 10 years.
Commuting to reserves sucks no matter what company you work for, so don't use United's high bypass numbers as an excuse to discount it as an option. At SWA, you get to wait 7+ years for the chance to commute to reserves. Why wait unnecessarily?
