SWA biggest hole in their network is the Northeast. So to say they have nothing they want is suspect. Having said that, financially they too have their own issues when it comes to a sustainable profitable airline. The amount of finance debt they have(north of 7.5 billion) is probably something SWA will not stomach. Regulatory enviroment maybe favorable but both of their finances won't change anytime soon.

Spirit post bankruptcy? Sure, maybe, but Spirit/Frontier has merger written all over it and Spirit still exits bankruptcy with huge debt and no real cost restructuring.

It's the rumor du jour because it was mentioned on the Air Show podcast in a predictions episode. Honestly...it makes sense from a network standpoint, but there are just sooooo many big hurdles to overcome and dissimilar product melding, I really truly don't see it happening. It would be a Herculean merger if so.

b6 guy here and it has felt like we are for sale the last 6 months. Also wishful thinking on my end.
we’re also facing a big displacement coming up soon here, and also have Icahn while your group has Elliot.
a lot of parallels

Like I said in previous post, Elliot has their members on the BOD now and the reshuffling of the bases, should be the least of everyone concerns. Ellitot is bad news, merger, sell off airplanes, furloughs, break up the company all these things are a distinct possibility, and I don't think any of them will be good for this pilot group. All they are interested in is getting the value of the stock up and getting it up fast.
