Sometimes before 4 am. Many times I have had the first leg land at a base and the originators are still at the gate

More than once I’ve walked into a hotel lobby on a PM while the AMers are walking out. I’m sad for them sometimes.

I am not really sure how you guys bid. Is PM a lot more senior? Otherwise, why would anyone willingly volunteer to get up at 4am.

They usually give you some story about how PM trips are always delayed. Honeslty, I'd rather get up at 11 and be delayed six hours than to wake up before the sun comes up. I'd rather do red-eyes. I'd rather do nonstop simulator events. Nothing is more painful to me than an AM trip.

I just like it better than going to bed at 4am.

I fly both for commutability. It's definitely a diffefent strokes type of thing. I personally hate AMs that aren't on the west coast. They get up super early and I am destroyed for a full day after the trip trying to catch up. Some people love them because they are bit more predictible. I get it completely, but the whole saying about Southwest being two different airlines is very true. A lot more odd ducks and a holes fly AM pairings.

I bid AM’s now but always stay west coast in ideally in the same time zone or at worst just one over. As for weird dudes they exist at both ends of the spectrum lol. In my case it’s a medical reason, I just function at much higher level in the AM and naturally wake up around 4:30am when at home.

Thankfully we have choices here.

Some AMs require a much earlier wake-up prior to 4 am .
