Always good to think about reasons for upgrade besides schedules. Sick pay, medical leave, mergers…better to be in the left seat.

When I wanted a month off, I gave it away and sicked everything else. Don't let your schedule get in the way of your life.

I was going to say this.
I recently went on a long trip where I wouldn't have phone reception. I was unable to move a trip because of duties to cover in elitt but was able to slide everything else. You can guess the outcome of that. My family will always come first. Nobody has ever died wishing they worked more. I was able to switch into a trip with a report time that would be PBR because I am a giver.

If you live in base not sure why you would ever utilize release until check in...

I took first available upgrade at a different airline and the QOL is awful. A merger was announced about a year after my bid effective date. I'll try and update if it was worth waiting out the SLI. The money is amazing but the QOL is so bad I'm considering bidding back to FO. If there had not been a merger announced I probably already would have.

Ski resorts and MTB parks are 2 hrs away. I can bid a trip with a late report, get RTCI and do what I want with no leash.

If you want to sit at home and try and hide, then don’t bid on a trip and hope they forget who you are.

I fly with guys who live "in base" but they're almost a 2-hour drive away. Their stress would be massively reduced by RTCI.

Me, I live 20 minutes away from work. I don't plan on using RTCI (unless I have lunch plans or something), as I'd rather make the extra cash in LCO by being available for when the plan changes.

If you RTCI you open yourself up for a long first day. Your duty day clock no longer starts at the beginning of your RAP...

Pros and cons but it's good to have a choice...
