I have never heard of a PHX crashpad. The hotel situation there is pretty good and it isn't a big commuter base. There are bound to be one or two, but I would highly suggest just doing the hotel thing unless you plan on spending a lot of time there when you are off work.

most of the time I would use the monorail across the street to get to and from the terminal. Never called the hotel shuttle to get TO the hotel. Monorail was quicker. And since it's right next to the light rail AND a bus stop it was super easy and cheap to get to Target or go into town for restaurants and entertainment.
I also walked to and from Target a lot during the cooler months. Easy safe walk. Sidewalks the whole way.

I just used the Crown Plaza. It was a little bit expensive but not awful using the company adhoc crew member discount code.

Out of interest, do people on reserve that commute tend to get crash pads, or is it a case that you end up always being put on a trip…etc?
If on reserve, are you able to pick up flights in Open Time?

I got a crashpad when I was new in LAS…but I was getting paid $50/tfp and that was 2 contracts ago with much different rsv rules where you’d sit in base a lot more.

Later this year rsv’s can bid on open time trips that they prefer to work on their rsv block. You can bid to fly or pass…those that bid to fly go to the top of the list…typically commuters do this to avoid hotels and they’ll work pretty much every day.

With the contract that we have now? No brainer....get a hotel. Paying a few extra bucks a month to have a van pick you up and whisk you away to your private room is well worth it.

Commuting to reserve you will get used the vast majority of the time. I also had a crash pad in HOU back when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth and it was largely a waste of money. I used it maybe 2-3 nights a month and would have basically broken even with a hotel.
