yes, it does matter why. Try just not going to your AME and letting your medical expire and see if it matters then. There are other reasons as well, like self inflicted injuries.

It does matter when a situation is reported. Also, at WN we have the 60-day period which I assume is common in the STD/LTD insurance plans we subscribe to.

Unfortunately we never codified this in or LOM language and are stuck with this. As this has been a contentious issue, our union mentioned that this is not unheard of. It was published that SWA no longer covers FAA holds too. Is this true?

I think he’s getting at letting your medical lapse, having a reportable issue that would require special issuance, and trying to get your medical back at that point. Or something.

yeah that would make sense, I guess I figured that was kinda assumed and didn't need to spell it out. But you know what they say...

self inflicted injury refers to something like a suicide attempt or intentional cutting (self-harm), not an accident.

I would think that is a mental health issue and the pilot would be covered. There is a good conversation going on in the health section on mental health and suicide.

I am sure you are incorrect on this . That would be terrible to kick somebody to the curb because they have mental issues.. it is people like you and the way you think that make piolts with mental health issues hide them and not seek help.

Do not shoot the Messenger. I am just calling it as I see it.
