Look, I'm not arguing for or against the use of VNAV or the fact that it is even required or the best choice to use in many situations. But it amazes me sometimes how afraid some pilots are to use level change or vertical speed when the situation calls for it. VNAV is not the be all/end all

Or just LVL CHG and dial speed up.
Going to a small airport and there’s no STAR. ATC clears you direct to the IAF and now you’re 7k’ high. While you’re finger banging the box…I’ll go flaps 1, LVL CHG, 240 on speed.
More than 1 way to skin the cat. You do it how you want, I’ll do it the way I want. As long as we get the same result without bending metal or ending up in a OPS Day presentation….who cares?

Thanks for the lesson on setting up the Box Captain. What happens if the winds are off 10 knots?

You do you boo, but I’m not going to be the next ops day event.
