Hmmm, very interesting and hopefully true.

"MIT's Swelbar said that if the 737 Max planes do not have the range needed for Southwest's desired routes, the airline could partner with a European carrier. But it would likely start by adding flights to the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico and Canada."

No doubt that the Max could do Western Europe easily eastbound, but how about during the winter westbound? Realistically, it's still a 737 and not suited for transoceanic travel, so is there a widebody in the future? They also aren't supposed to show up until 2017 and all the hype is pointing to starting this endeavor in 2015.

As for partnering with a European carrier? How the hell does that fit into the scope language?

They are "Regional Oceans", as opposed to "Legacy Oceans".

CBA allows international codeshare of up to 4% of ASM's flown by SWA in the previous calendar year.

This sounds like pretty sweet news for Southwest and BWI! I hope that it all works out. I do think that going to Europe in a 737 would be painful beyond imagination if that were to happen but could this be the hint of a new addition to the fleet?

Rolf, you are absolutely correct. I went back and re-read it. Only near international codeshare allowed with the 4% ASM restriction. All other codeshare requires SWAPA agreement.
