Default FedEx VP Flight Operations

Captain Tim Leonard from SWA will start as Vice President, Flight Operations for FedEx as of December 1st. It's a surprise to me that we have an external guy filling this position over many other candidates from within our company.

Curious on the Southwest pilots' thoughts on what this guy will bring to our company, what his skills are, how is he regarded, etc? Is he known for fulfilling a certain role at SWA and we can expect he will do the same at FedEx?

Seemed like an okay guy from my (very) limited perspective. Like Martin, he probably had his sights set on the VP Flt Ops position here. When he didn't get the nod recently, I assume he decided to look elsewhere. You could do worse...hook him up with a good proof-reader and he'll be fine.

My source (1993 hire) based in MCO stated: "Good for us, bad for you."

His "resume" listed chief pilot MCO as one of his positions.

He was the MCO Asst. Chief for a few years when Roper was CP. He got promoted out of there, which was great, because he was the guy you DIDN'T go to if you had an issue.

Standby for clarifications to the reissued RBF's. He does like his memos.
