Would have been a good idea for the NC to include a drop dead clause in the proposal. If the company did not respond by a stated time, the proposal was off the table and replaced with another 10% more costly to the company. Keep this up until Kelly realizes he's not playing with a bunch of schmucks.

I thought I saw on a thread somewhere that they're looking to lower their hours requirement and eliminate the turbine PIC requirement. Any truth to that? Maybe just wishful thinking on my part? Anything mentioned at WAI? I couldn't make it.

Rocky stated at WAI that they will be keeping the 1000 TPIC requirement for the near future. He stated that SW likes leaders and having the 1000 hours shows you have been a leader at some point and bring good experience to the company.

My opinion; it's gone by the end of the year.

OK, that makes sense. Thanks for the info. I've heard they have had unfilled spots in a lot of their classes lately. That probably won't change when they have higher minimums than the legacies.

I would be happy to take one of those unfilled spots along with everyone else here that has been trying like heck to get noticed!

I've been told the type rating is still the single biggest earner of points in the SWA pilot credentials search algorithm. If you've got all the other boxers you can checked, and truly want to work for the company, then bite the bullet- you'll make up the price you pay for it by your second year on property (so they say).

If you have the type, what other stuff can you do to improve your application? More PIC time, LCA, CP, Director of OPS/Safety, consistent community service, demonstrated leadership were the list of big ticket items that got put out to the class of SWA wannabes at Higher Power recently by the interview prep lady that help to build the Current SWA hiring program in her former life.

What would be awesome is if there was a "Dudes Pilot's Group" (DPG) and we could get some of these 737 type rating scholarships that these other organizations are getting! That would be awesome!

At the hiring briefing at WAI Rockey stated if you don't have the type don't pay for one. So did the recruiter that I talked to.
As for people not showing up for classes they also said that was false.
They have no plans to get rid of the 1000 PIC.
All directly said from Rockey who is THE head guy for pilot recruiting.
However he also said in about 5 years they, and all the other airlines, are going to have trouble finding pilots.

At WAI, Rocky basically told everyone to not waste their money on a 737 type nowadays. In fact, he said they preferred that people didn't have it because they were finding that they would have to "untrain" folks and retrain them with the SWA procedures. I'm sure that having the type rating doesn't hurt with the scoring of the app though. The box is still there to be checked on pilot credentials after all.

He said the 5 year thing last year too and was adamant about it. It surprised me to hear that from someone in his position. Seems the 1000 TPIC and 5 year crunch do not mix well.
