Another one for the record books.
In other news, the company has promised that, even though they can't afford raises for us, we will achieve total consciousness on our deathbeds.
Also, they have to park classics because of the mean ol' pilots.

Wait... Shouldn't everyone be THANKING the pilots for this. Every group I've interacted with from the FAs to the MX folks hate the Classics. Not to mention the customers who moan and groan when they find out there is no Wifi. Instead I have two emails today from the bosses laying a huge guilt trip on us for stunting the growth of the company.

Don't think for a moment that this decision was made suddenly or without thought. As for your points, they're well made but, imo, irrelevant to management. Those airc aft are paid for many times over. After MX and labor are paid, those loads are pure profit. IMO, this is a decision based upon future MX on these airframes. Spar stress, longitudinal stress, etc has made the profit margins go down. Not to mention the liability the first time a 300 cracks in half mid flight.
My main point being, don't think mgmt make decisions based upon labor groups' desires or customers' opinions.
Edit: this wasn't really directed at you Fuse. I've heard lots of ppl make this same point.

It has to do with the nitrogen for the fuel tanks all classics have to have by 2018. That's a $million+ AD. Don't think that the company didn't know about this and used this opportunity to put it on negotiations.

Now if the pilots and company had agreed to subsets for Classic/NG and NG/Max, and the FAA had figured out the training requirements, the Classics might have graced everyone into 2018.
Alas, it is not to be.

Management can blame the pilots for everything from A to Z, I personally don't care anymore. I certainly don't speak for all SWA pilots, but "Fearless Leader" in Dallas, gets nothing from me until we get a contract.
As a pilot group we have been given empty promise after empty promise for all of our side letters over the years. I am done.
Management, Wall Street and our BOD have monetized our "goodwill". That goodwill was built by Herb and Colleen for over 30 years. It has taken Gary less than 5 years to significantly break that down and turn it into shareholder return and executive compensation.
Welcome to the "new" Southwest Airlines.

The latest series of cracks in the wing spars probably was a major player in this.
When we didn't "play ball", that was the final straw.
