2017 Attrition

Lost 17 so far, 6 of them CAs.

I also know a bunch of guys waiting on class dates.

northdakota 02-24-2017 04:59 AM

What reason has management given anyone to stay? The answer is no reason at all.

We have a crisis coming this summer and I can't wait to watch. However, I would rather have a well managed company that is proactive and employee friendly. What were the results of that expensive Gallop survey again?

I am sure this number is genuine but until the union sends it out its hard to take serious. I've also heard losing a first year guy after 6 mo is a financial wash. Take that with a grain of salt.

That is from the union. Spoke with some of them this morning and got the exact same numbers.

AirbusRetard 02-24-2017 06:39 AM

Would be cool if the union put on the emails who was leaving and where they went. Kinda like they used to do with new hires coming on board and where they came from.

squawkoff 02-24-2017 08:03 AM

Are they still requiring a job fair for an interview? The next one I could find was in May.

maybe not if they keep having that kind of attrition.

paidpnuts 02-24-2017 08:57 AM

If a company is having attrition issues, one might ask why before coming here to work.

flysooner9 02-24-2017 09:20 AM

Because right now it's a stepping stone for some people to make it to the big 3

squawkoff 02-24-2017 09:35 AM

It is relative just like so many things in life. Spirt is a huge step up from where I am now. And before you ask. Yes. It's that bad.

I just wish spirit would get a contract together and raise pay to be more aligned with industry standard. I'd love to take the next step but I can't provide for my family on $35K first year.

One just turned in his notice to go to UPS. 8 year Captain.

Unfortunately $35k is wishful thinking.

Not if you live in base.

How many JRMs/MUPs is that including? How many days off? Admittedly I didn't bust my @55 first year but don't think I came anywhere near $35k. One month out of home base. Unless you live near FLL, maybe ACY or DTW it will take a few months to get to your home base today. $1750 for 2 months doesn't start your 12 off very well.

2 months, I had $1750 for a full 3

3rd year FO pay at Spirit is eaqual to 8th year CA pay at my current airline.

THR IDLE 02-24-2017 01:14 PM

According to the "revised, revised" seniority list, I moved up 23 spots between July and January. I don't recall my exact number when I was hired, but I think I moved up about 60 in a couple of years.

same here lol first year is terrible but it gets livable quickly at Spirit. If they just got rid of 1st year pay they would get people in the door without problems.

Livable for whom? A single guy with no life?

1st year pay is like the "Jelly of The Month Club". It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Sure, years 2 and 3 are livable, but you're carrying $25,000+ in Credit Card Debt from making less than $30,000 first year ($29,900 for me).

Great point. Don't forget that 18-23 percent interest loan you'll be taking out just to feed your family. Oh and don't forget. Upgrades are done. You will be a Spirit FO for years and years dragging that first year CC debt around with you like an anchor

3inthegreen 02-24-2017 03:41 PM

I track it month by month, bid by bid. Aug 2016 hire, moved up 43 numbers as of today. Also lost close to a dozen below me, that number is harder to track.

I"d like to see an attrition list updated every month by the union. It may be a wash for the guys/gals here less than 6 months but how many training events does it trigger when a captain leaves?
Could be costly in the long run...

Super EZ E 03-01-2017 08:29 AM

We've had 2 from my class leave this month! Already gone!

soon the people leaving/month will outnumber their maximum training/per month

Running 40 new hires a month now.

Of which only 36 will show, 32 will make it through, only 20 will stay for the first year. Meanwhile we will keep losing our 10-15 a month like clock work. By July we will be at critical staffing.

There's a rumor floating around we'll be 80-100 captains short for July and August.

And then they will get to chose, should be short captains? Or should we be short FO's? On paper being short Captains is cheaper when the flight cancels.

In that case they better come with an industry standard offer to include SCOPE SCOPE SCOPE, Pay, Retirement, Retro, and Profit Sharing by April to ratify by May if they want us to save them. Because they are too far behind the curve for a new contract to get enough guys interested in this place to be online by late summer so it's up to us to save them with premium pay pickups right out of open time on top of the new scale. Otherwise, they can enjoy the dumpster fire they created with their senseless greed.

Super EZ E 03-03-2017 02:36 AM

Can they cancel vacations when they get short on staffing??

Agreed; lets not get blinded by a pay increase and forget scope, long term disability and retirement. Widebody ULCC across the pond is on the horizon and we don't want to be code-sharing it all away without anything in return. We need to keep as many Aces as we can for future negotiations and arbitration down the road.
