Our Dispatchers are certificated professionals who are also union employees. They don't fly the airplanes, and we don't file the flight plans.

If Yuri can't maintain operational control over the airline then he shouldn't be the VP of FLOPS.

This isn't the only occurrence of the issue in recent history. Don't become Spirit's (unpaid) backup plan when their discount software fails...again.

They are taking advantage of the suckers to make more go happen for less pay.

What about liability to the crewmembers who file the flight plan? If mistakes are made by the pilots, who will oversee the safety of the flight? Dispatch is obviously not overseeing the flights if the crews have to file their own flight plans. I've had a harder time lately getting a response from dispatch while enroute. Filing our own flight plans only serves to expose us to more liability and less oversight. I think the MEC should put out a statement advising pilots against this practice.

Ding!!

If you don't have a dispatch certificate you shouldn't be doing the work of a dispatcher. You're opening up a can of worms that a lawyer would slap you for.

It's not that pilots aren't smart enough to call flight service, it's that we aren't trained to take on the responsibility and liability.

Not your circus, not your monkeys.

Ghetto paralegal out!

That definitely warrants an "LOL" in response. "LOL ****" is tempting, but probably unprofessional.

The very fact that Jyri would even make this request shows how out of touch he is with the pilot group.

Guys just load the airbus specs to your flightplan.com account and it is really easy to do. You can also paste that info to your jepp and foreflight. Some pilots in 121 ops file their own flight plans. Oh and the gravy is good boys pick up that April OT.
