This is true. One nice thing about PBS with Spirit (potential) is the red/green system. Most companies PBS leads to ~0 open time, thus no flexibility and reserves flying rarely (not necessarily a bad thing). But with the ability to drop Green open time should still remain a viable option for schedule improvement throughout any given month.

PBS theoretically removes IOT, thus less RSV coverage needed.

my last airline with pbs the rsvs flew every single day and were borderline abused by scheduling

That’s all because of staffing. Has nothing to do with pbs or line bidding. My last company was same way with reserves. Reserve schedules were built by hand after the regular lines came out and they saw where more coverage was needed. If someone called in sick it often caused a cancellation because they were staffed so thinly and all the reserves were already out flying regular open time trips. We also didn’t have the red green system and often the only way to get the day off you needed was to call in sick last minute causing even more uncovered flying.

I hope management at spirit realizes they can’t staff us like a regional when they are trying to improve our reputation with the passengers.

Interesting post, I got hired at Spirit in October 94 with 5600 hours and about 4000 multi and very little turbine PIC.
