This is the event which sparked the fume event changes in the industry. The First Officer, Eric Tellmann, took the experiences of that event and substantially changed the way Spirit deals with fume events, as well as the industry, as he now works with ALPA and APA to help educate pilots.
Fume events have been around for a long time, often ignored and unreported. Its nice to see airlines finally take notice of the effects of fume events and its all comes back to this flight, it sparked the change.

ET is no longer the chairman of the environmental standards committee. His important work exposing the hazards of contaminated bleed air may not have gone over well with some folks that may be too cozy with the aircraft manufacturers.
Neurotoxins aerosolized from over heated lubricants escaping engine seals which then contaminate cabin air is a major problem that could lead to class action lawsuits with multi million/billion dollar implications.
I urge all pilots to take fume events seriously and follow this issue closely.
