He also told me that the pilots new uniforms are going to include yellow shoes and a bow tie. Also the new uniforms are going to include North Face jackets but that part doesn’t really matter because we look like a bunch of comical slobs anyways when we are out in public. I mean pilots wearing bright blue pants instead of navy pants while sporting their wrinkly shirts. F/O’s doing walk around while talking on their cell phones, captains wearing their North Face jackets wanting to look like a d-bag corporate pilot. (Yeah dude you look cool with your black jacket and your navy pants) Sorry for that rant sometime I really am embarrassed for the other Spirit pilots I see.

...anyaways I have been hearing that rumor too. I hope it’s not true.

Did they approve beards?

Based on the work of a detective who smuggled out this photo of the new pilot uniform, apparently they do. The hat is mandatory.

According to airliners.net we’re getting a BDL base.

Super EZ E 11-24-2018 06:47 AM

You guys should get back to the post about bathroom doors...

Tranquility 11-24-2018 06:59 AM

The biggest downside (as a non ACY person) that I see is that we would still do a ton of flying there, and if there’s no base, we’d increase our layovers there..... Not something I’d be fond of!

Are you offering?

Oh did I hurt your feelings about your jacket? Are you one of those tools that like to wear it?

9 flights a day is hardly a ton of flying. The main reason the base still exists is to put out fires in BWI, PHL, EWR and LGA. This airline will always need a base in the northeast.

i mean you do seem a LITTLE worked up.

GrillMaster 11-24-2018 08:02 AM

To me BWI makes sense. As we take delivery of more airplanes, BWI can expand more than ACY. Isnt BWI like 20-30+ departures a day? Maybe they both stay a base since we are the only carrier in ACY and it can cover NYC and BWI has lots of its own departures.
But another east coast base makes sense as we get our way towards 177 (hopefully many many more) aircraft. There will be plenty of folks wanting that base.
But at the same time, the same could be said for any major airports that we have lots of departures at.

GWY320 11-24-2018 08:23 AM

PHL bathroom doors open out in terminal e.

I'm pretty sure you're the only one getting their feeling hurt on here. Don't worry little guy, everything will be ok.

For some reason I thought it was more than that.... I could have just referred to the time tables.. DOH! 🤦🏻*♂️

Okay got it. I have you marked down as the one that does the walk around while talking on your phone.

Super EZ E 11-24-2018 10:17 AM

BWI makes a lot of sense. Build it up as a mini hub and crew base. Spirit will always cherry pick ACY. I'm sure it will suck for those based in ACY that live north of ACY to make the trek to BWI. 2hr 30min.

I’ve never seen any FO’s on their phones doing the walk so I don’t know what you’re seeing. I do see the northface jacket every now and then but who cares. Seems like a minor thing to get yourself all worked up about. The leather jacket I wear isn’t exactly the sharpest looking thing and it’s approved.

I could see ACY staying open as a very small base to continue supporting PHL, EWR and LGA. I also heard the grand plan for BWI is 90+ departures per day.

Tranquility 11-24-2018 11:24 AM

Any idea how many daily departures Southwest has out of BWI?

There's a lot of truth in the post unfortunately even if guys don't want to accept it.

2017 info but gives you an idea.

Heard the BWI base is opening to accommodate all the additional flying from the purchase of 120 Norwegian Airlines A321's and funded by efficiencies to be brought about from the acquisition of Frontier Airlines.

LAS, MCO and BWI build them up, get the place running on time and sell it!

How many other major airlines allow "wear whatever jacket you want to work?"

Leather jacket is approved, the "NorthFace" equivalent is not.

Its as simple as that. When you leave your house, you (we) make the decision if we want to comply with the uniform, or not.

You’re right, but why do you care so much what some other guys jacket looks like? Do you look at their shoes too?

If they were wearing something ridiculous like red sneakers or flip flops then yes.

Because we look like *******s when we don’t look uniform

Yup...I look at shoes. I'm such a douche because a kiwi kit is sooo expensive, especially for someone making six figures. Don't show up to work b1tching about being underpaid while looking like a lazy slob. It's not a good look.

Tjamaica 11-24-2018 06:31 PM

LOL that this is a jacket thread now! That being said, I hope we get a North Face type jacket like Southwest has. I don't wear one now but would gladly wear it. You know why?... it's practical. It will stuff in your bag when in San Diego or Lauderdale. The leather is just not practical

I care because we represent eachother when in public.

If a Spirit pilots is rude when jumpseating, it looks bad for us as a group. (Think of the tool in DTW who almost cost us our SWA JS privileges a few years ago)

When guys “wear their own uniform,” it looks bad for us as a group. Demonstrates disregard for a simple uniform policy, one can easily wonder what else is being disregarded.

And yeah, seems this has turned into a jacket thread. Probably because a large portion of this pilot group is just sick of seeing guys “wear their own uniform” like it’s anateur hour.

Tranquility 11-24-2018 08:02 PM

Probably one of the best thread drifts EVER! Base opening to uniform appearance? Pretty awesome!

Let me see if I can reverse course.... The Patriots CHEAT! Annnnnd, go!

I totally agree. I have mine shined regularly by shoe shine. I have an image to uphold. Shave daily and wear shined shoes. Take pride in one’s appearance.

TrojanCMH 11-24-2018 08:07 PM

Looks like I’ve struck a bit of a nerve. Yes I agree we should all be wearing the approved uniform and I agree that a uniform looking group commands more respect from our peers. However it’s not something that is making me lose any sleep at night. Probably close to the bottom of all the things that irritate me with this industry. If the Fo I’m working with shows up in a NorthFace it isn’t going to make me treat them any differently or even say anything. They have their reasons and if they fly well and are decent to be in a cockpit with then so be it.

We’re getting the exact same carbon jacket as SWA.

Then I quit. 😁 The very few I’ve seen wearing one look like ****tards. And you know ours will probably be all yellow with a big spirit logo on the back.

Qotsaautopilot 11-25-2018 05:00 AM

The sw northface jacket is approved for them and they look like a pilot because it has stripes. Our guys that wear them have all different versions of them and have no epaulettes so they just look like “some guy” instead of the professional in command of the plane when they walk up to the gate.
