Default Beware: Bedbugs in SDQ

Did a Santo Domingo short the other night. (Hampton Airport) While I did not encounter bedbugs, the FA's did. One told me she switched rooms 8 times before there were no more rooms to move to and ended up sharing a room with another FA.

Yes, I sent an email to ALPA as well, but in the meantime, those of you that are scheduled to stay there, be very careful.

Bedbugs can be found in any hotel and anyone who jumps into bed without checking, that’s on you.

Drama from FAs, more common than bedbugs.

I would bet my retirement that this is not the only instance that particular FA has made a fuss about bedbugs. Bed bugs suck but it’s an occupational hazard we all have to deal with. The funny thing is that it’s probably flight crews that cause the initial infestation as we are more likely to be infected by them as we are exposed a lot more than the general public.

We were just talking about this tonight. I’ve been in this job for 13 years and never had a bedbug encounter. Find an FA that’s been around 3 years and they’ve had more than they can count and changing rooms is an every other pairing occurrence. Maybe I’m special?

meh, I’ve flown with pilots just as big of Divas as Some FAs.

Who knows? They switched rooms multiple times and yet mine didn't have any, so maybe *I'm* special. Luck of the draw I guess.

I'll admit to seeing my share of FA drama, but remember, they have a weaker union, no real hotel language to speak of, and generally get bullied into bad situations / ignored by the company.

So it's possible that they stay at worse hotels than us and have Bedbug issues. It's possible, like someone said a few posts up, that they are carrying the bugs around with them from hotel to hotel.

The hotel itself was nice, in its own little bubble. Friendly staff, prompt van service, nice room (disregarding the bedbugs of course.)

However, there's NOTHING around except a gas station, no sidewalks, just dirt, and the rooms have the smell of 3rd world plumbing. The stench that comes out once hot water starts going down the shower drain... But I guess that's what you get in places like that. I've done my share of Mexico overnights.

We have the same short stay ..unfortunately I never have a short stay there and haven’t stayed at the Hampton. I typically am stuck there for 18-23 hours.

So hotels and bedbugs just go together. It’s like restaurant and roaches. If you have one, you will inevitably have the other.... regardless of airline crew.
