3 sections of different seats? What are you even talking about?

I think he may be referring to the big fronts, bulkhead/handicap and the normal seats. Not sure what he means by the “smaller” seats though.
I guess he really is that obtuse. |
November class date at NK, it's my first airline after a decade of corporate flying. Sounds silly that one of the things I'm nervous about is unwritten jumpseat etiquette, having never done it. Thanks for the info on this thread haha

Hope, for your sake, that you are better prepared with all the other stuff that’s in the same black and white.... |

Always check in. Worst that could happen is they say “you have a seat in the back, no need to check in”. My first time jump-seating was on SWA and I was told by the gate agent to take a seat in the back. I had been told to check in when jumpseating but my 23 year old brain figured “well I’m not jumpseating so no need to bother them.” They called me up to the cockpit after everyone had boarded and proceeded to give me a run down on proper jumpseat etiquette. They were nice about it but yeah, always check in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Certainly good advise- but I’m not sure “check in” is the right way to look at it. Regardless of what seat you’ve been assigned, or what a gate agent has said- it’s your RESPONSIBILITY as a “jumpseater” to ASK for that ride. |

And it doesn’t hurt to grease the wheels with a little bit of coffee or pastries at the gate. |
Have your certificate, medical, and ID out. Captain shouldn’t have to ask, and certainly don’t make a face if he does.
