This reg is written for EVERYONE. so it’s generic. But if you’re in say Latrobe or AVL or some place the tower is closed and you’re also out of radio contact you just stay out of the clouds, fly a pattern and land. But yes in 99% of the places LGA or LAX tower is going to give you a new clearance

Better question is why we still train/allow briefs to be "Ok, in the event of a miss, heading 050 for 3 miles and then going the BFF 065 radial out to BUMFUK and hold"...all while knowing the ATIS says to expect the visual. Why do be brief things like this? I think in the 15+ years ive been doing this gig, I have gotten the published missed approach maybe twice, and "fly runway heading, climb to (2000 AGL), contact departure" 30 times.

Yup in my 30 years of flying not 1 published missed approach. I Just brief the missed altitude and say "or follow towers instructions". In the event tower does not respond on a go around from a visual and it remains visual I guess you would stay in the pattern at 1500 AGL.

I got the published missed once when I didn’t really expect to go missed. This was at a non-towered airport and ATC had a radar outage sometime between when I was cleared for the approach and told to switch to advisory and when I called back on that I was on the missed. Every other time it’s been some version of a heading and altitude.

Flying the AIM will eventually get me in trouble? I think I’ll just call out sick for the rest of my career. The world is too scary a place.

So you put 1500’ AFE in LAS and go around from 26L. It’s gonna be real interesting at 3700’ making left traffic to try again. Not to mention you will be outside the class B and go right in Henderson’s class D at 3700’

This has got to be the most idiotic conversation on APC.

Have you seen the threads on other subforums lately?

We could be talking about furlough mitigation
We could be talking about concessions/LOA
We could be talking about our 737Max
We could be tracking the TSA numbers on a daily basis, hoping to see a trend
We could be doing the ol political back and forth

Most idiotic conversation? Doubtful

Back to the SkyWest forums for you...

Speaking of dumb conversations, what are y’all thinking about this big covid spike occurring? Seems like a lot of Americans are “over it” when it comes to changing their lives for covid, but on the other hand the numbers are trending to be much higher than they ever have
