The company has converted the MOU to an actual purchase agreement. While not unexpected, it is significant.

offmyrocker 12-23-2019 06:10 PM

I stand corrected. My apologies. Great news that makes me even more thankful to be on the line already.

senecacaptain 12-23-2019 06:31 PM

Previously it was an MOU. Now the deal is finalized.

Sorry it’s a little off topic, but speaking about plane orders, looks like the 737 Max has been pushed back yet again till at least June (which I’m sure is just a wild guess).

It would seem like Spirit and other non-MAX operators are capitalizing on this and growing good market share. For example Southwest dropped some service out of EWR and Spirit picked up on it. Seems like stuff like this will really help Spirit grow. What are yalls thoughts?

Southwest’s fleet size is 5 times NK currently, I think we have a very long way to go before we eat significantly more into their market share (than we already have).

If SW wanted to be in EWR, they would have adjusted their route structure to be there. They have dozen of routes with 5-6-7 frequencies a day, we have a handful, which is why our aim for the coming year is to reinforce our route structure rather than extending too far into new markets.

This could be what our planes look like in the future.

Just curious where are you getting this info. I didn’t see the break down on the investor’s site.

FNGFO 02-10-2020 01:28 PM

That’s a lot of 319’s.

I saw the same thing in an article from the law firm that facilitated the deal. I googled it and it’s one of the first articles within the past 24 hours.

https://www.airbus.com/aircraft/mark...eliveries.html

second paragraph on the page

you can download the orders and delivery xls file from the site.

The xls spreadsheet will say 66 320 NEOs but that includes the currently 33 undelivered NEOs from 2020 to 2021

IwasInverted 02-10-2020 02:05 PM

I wonder what the 319 retirement schedule looks like from 2022 on

Tranquility 02-10-2020 02:05 PM

Regarding the 321 NEOs, is there a way to tell if they’ll be XLRs?

https://www.airbus.com/newsroom/pres...-aircraft.html

"U.S.-based Spirit Airlines has finalized a purchase agreement with Airbus for 100 A320neo Family aircraft. In October, the two parties had signed and announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the purchase of up to 100 of the aircraft – a mix of A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo – to meet the airline’s future fleet requirements."

On the 2019 Q3 investor call it was stated that they reserve the right to option up to XLRs or option down to A220s if they feel the need but said that it would be unlikely... so no XLRs as of now unless something changes

MCDUmanipulator 02-10-2020 03:53 PM

That’s a lot of 319 NEO’s a plane nobody else wants....

I guess I missed that part. Thanks!

Tjamaica 02-10-2020 04:24 PM

No prob. This is a quote from the investor call:

Mike, this is Scott Haralson. Yes, quick comment on the conversion component. We did in this order 319s, 320s and 321s, so the 320 family. However, we do have conversion rates up and down the spectrum of what Airbus offers through the 19, 20, and 21 as well into the 220 if we would like to do that. That's just a mechanism, and the contract -- not a hint to our desire to do that at all. Our plan is to operate the 320 family of aircraft.

I couldn't find any reference to XLR in the investor call now that I looked for it but I did read it somewhere (sorry can't find it rn) that they can flex up to XLRs too but, again, as of now that's not the plan.

Qotsaautopilot 02-10-2020 04:47 PM

Wouldn’t the XLR be useless in high density seating. Not sure it would have the payload available with bags to fill up all the tanks

To me it makes sense. Spirit is very opportunistic with new routes. The 319 neo will have the best range in the fleet and allow for the most expansion into underserved route markets, even if they are transcon

I bet it was a smoking deal on those. I also wonder if that’s in response to Breeze’s looming entrance to the market.

I very rarely have many bags on domestic routes, so filling up tanks shouldn’t be a problem. Going south, different question. A couple of trips ago I did a IAH-SAP turn and we had nearly 200 bags each way, in a 320! 😮
If we got the XLR, it’d be interesting to see how Spirit deploys it.

ridinhigh 02-10-2020 07:17 PM

Were the engines also described?
P&W?

apparently Frontier (indigo) thinks it can be used.

yeah it’s not really a domestic plane though unless we are talking Hawaii or alaska into a flyover state

Wonder if any will have the new “airspace” cabin, much more space in overheads and nicer PSU’s
