W-2's

So are these ever going to appear?

They will be out sometime between now and Jan 31st.

I’ve never understood why everyone is so antsy to do their taxes. If you’ve got your tax deductions dialed in correctly you should only get a small amount back. If you’re getting a bunch back, you gave the government an interest-free loan for the whole year. Plus anyone with 1099’s from investments likely won’t receive those until some time in February. What’s the rush?

Exactly. And if you really want to see where you stand tax wise, it’s pretty simple to take your last paycheck and enter the info in, with a little logic, you’ll see it’s easy to do. Give you an idea of where you stand.

But then again, anyone who wants a W2 now is probably someone expecting a refund and has zero 1099s...so maybe this person can’t figure out the W2 themselves.

Great answers guys I guess I’m a moron for wondering. Mods delete this thread. Tell me more about how I should do something else instead.

LOL! Let me tell you about how we did things back at COMAIR

LandGreen 01-27-2020 10:44 AM

Typical pilot. The guy asks if anyone has any info on when we might see our w-2s and the all knowing sky god blesses us with priceless financial wisdom. How have we all survived thus far without your input on interest free loans to uncle same. I don’t care if my w2 doesn’t get published till April 14th now, thank you so much

The law says by Jan 31st.

Today is Jan 27th.

What’s the issue?

Typical pilot complaining just for the sake of complaining.

As mentioned, it isn’t late. So starting a thread just to complain? You don’t think you’ll get equally obnoxious posts back? New to APC?

Maybe I’ll start one today asking where my end of the month paycheck is at?

“are we ever going to get the Jan 31st paycheck?” That would deserve some jabs too. Why? Because it’s ridiculous.

BeechedJet 01-27-2020 11:34 AM

Everyone I’ve talked to from other airlines have already received theirs. Last year I remember getting it earlier than this too. For the sake of discussion yeah I’m wondering why still waiting so late or maybe someone has some actual insight. Of course I know it’s required by the 31st. I didn’t see it posted online and maybe, just maybe for some reason they’ve started appearing in peoples mailboxes. What if mine got lost in the mail? What if a lot of things, what if they painted over it while painting the 319s? What if it was sent to the BWI pilot base? What if I’m getting BWI based?

JFC I just asked a question. Deleted the WhatsApp stuff years ago. Let’s talk about something else. How about that ORD hotel
movement?

DrSteveBrule 01-27-2020 12:07 PM

I never understood why anyone gives half a nut how someone else withholds? I could be a financial advisor if i wanted, i am if i say i am. I don't have to be, I'm a pilot. See ya at work, suckers!

Maybe some people, like me, don’t care that you are giving Uncle Sam a loan tax free and would rather have a lump of cash back at the end of the year, rather than getting a little more each paycheck.

I was just booked there two nights ago. Got moved to the Embassy with no notice. Didn’t know until we called for the shuttle. In fact, both full crews of FAs and pilots had no idea. Perfect for our 0100 arrival. Luckily it’s the same shuttle, I guess.

I hope people expressed this in the hotel survey. I still don’t know how that qualifies as a long stay requirement.

CAirBear 01-28-2020 01:10 PM

Curious why some don’t like Rosemont. That bar/restaurant district just past the parking garage is nice.

I agree. You want to sit in traffic for an hour and a half each way be my guest. Take a cab or the train. I love rosemont. The double tree is starting to show its age admittedly but there are newer or renovated options in the area. Over 20-40 years after you’ve seen it a couple times what is the draw to sit in traffic to downtown Chicago when you can’t even leave to hotel half the year because it’s stupid cold.

LGA was different because there was nothing next to the Spring Hill. The drive to manhattan makes me want to slit my wrists though. New hotel is nice.

BOS on the other hand- all layovers should be at the Park Plaza. Even trade for ORD

and anyone that put on the survey that a courtyard or hampton inn is an acceptable hotel for any overnight needs to be tarred and feathered. All overnights short or long should be 4-5 diamond properties. Westin etc per the example.

Ah, the reason we gave up the 15 hour long stay for the short stay, guys complaining about a chartered private vehicle and rather enjoy waiting on a hotel shuttle that “runs on the 20s”.

Rosemont is as much of a “metropolitan area” and Queens was for our NY long stay finally was straightened out. You’re view of “once you seen it a few times” reminds me why most AA hotels are in the suburbs by a shopping mall. If nothing else, get out an walk around. It’s not always “stupid cold”. We don’t stay at the MSP short all year because it’s “stupid cold,” or DTW.

Rosemont and queens aren’t even in the same category. Plus when the Cubs move out there it’ll be great. It’s not one size fits all is all I’m saying. Going downtown in ord for the next 20+ years would be miserable. BOS Long is probably one of the best in the system and it doesn’t take an hour and a half to get there in mind numbing stop and go traffic while the driver floors it and then slams the breaks constantly. And if there’s no traffic it’s the Daytona 500. If I’ve told that guy in BWI slow the hell down once I’ve done it 1000 times.

MSP long isn’t doesn’t take that long to get to btw. Plus they have the skywalk in winter. Summer it’s a great city.

DTW again not that far but I don’t leave the hotel in winter.

That's pretty much exactly what I wrote on mine. Name brand Hilton/Westin/Marriott which have better quality rooms with less noise, more functional gyms, and just nicer overall since we are doing so many of these now.

Sure it's a nice hotel, no argument there, but it's just too far from everything. The drive is nearly an hour thru all of cali to get there and if you want to go out then you have to get back in a taxi for another 30 minutes. There are nice brand name hotels downtown near the river, way closer to the airport and everything else (nightlife, restaurants, etc). American even stays downtown.

What about all these Holiday Inn’s. I feel like I’m back in the regionals. DTW, EWR, and DEN. Just to name a few that come to mind.

Gawd finally. My thrice weekly urban steak has drained both my funds and my expectations for hotel steaks.

Fixed it for you...
At least for the majority of hotels, if not Rosemont.

The language from 16:45 to 13:45 (18:00 to 15:00) was a huge give away. Not the Unions fault. Gotta find compromises when only 10% of the pilot group can locate a picketing event.

I enjoy taking a 4:30am van for a 5:15 show. Who doesn’t want to show up 15 minutes early for a 12 hour duty day? Don’t show up at 4:30 it left at 4:22. Unless you tried the 5am van, that one will leave about 5:10 to make you feel nice and rushed in a dark cockpit.

Cap it off with a 30 minute wait at the end of the day, angry angry taxi cab ride and a reimbursement. Call it the new normal short stay routine....

Short layover: I don't take a van that leaves more than 30 before show. I also don't rush. They can call me a cab if they want to. I like long layovers, but we need more input in pickup time. Made it to the gate 45 minutes before show at the LAX long early departure. Had to wait half an hour to get coffee, and another half hour before the gate agent showed.

All so we can have free "breakfast" at the Hampton Inn on a 16 hour overnight ;)

Seriously though, take the hotel survey. Then you can at least say that you voiced your concerns ahead of time when you call out fatigued for dealing with all of these shenanigans.

Isnt this the truth. Cabs love it when you hop in and say "take me to the hotel around the corner." I mean, not that I care, you're a cab driver, you drive, but always an issue. I had one try and refuse and I had to mention that I would be forced to report him to the airport for refusing a fare..he took us. But I agree, not something anyone wants to deal with after a 12 hour day.

And if any shuttle runs on the 30s, thats a straight walk to the cab stand for me from the terminal. Company wants this, this is what they get.

BeechedJet 01-30-2020 11:35 AM

I forgot what hotel it was, last month I was at with a shuttle that only runs on the hour. Yeah that was awesome.
