I know there is no crystal ball, but what is the thought for new hires starting within the next couple weeks? Stay at current job or join the team?

Tough choice but I would probably still come grab a seniority number.

except I don’t live in base.
it’s too bad this false narrative airlines and pilots have about being able to live wherever you want. I lived that nightmare for seven years. You don’t know what you don’t know was my problem. I wasn’t living where I wanted to live. I was visiting a house and my family where I wanted to live. I wasn’t actually living. Would I rather live there than in base? Yes, but living and existing are different. |
Anyone know our general September pull down? Will this be September type schedule for the airline? Less or more? Do we make money in September or is it just a month trying to mitigate losses until the juicy months return?

Mistake number one.

You clearly are not cut out for commuting, which is fine; the irony will be IF they ever close your base, you’ll be the first on here to complain about the base closing and how it affects your life. |

Many people don’t live in base and have great quality of life. Not everyone wants to live in 6 possible cities, wondering when/if you’ll have to uproot the family to move to another base, if/when yours closes.

Opening and closing bases is why I commuted at the regional. I’d say most of our bases at the major airline level are pretty stable, and while It can happen I certainly wouldn’t worry about them closing in the near term. I thought I had a reasonable QOL while commuting until I lived in base and realized how bad commuting actually was. I have a family member that’s been commuting to a legacy for 34 years. Top 5% on their type and pretty much just picks the trips they want. I can tell you my qol is better than theirs and I’m not anywhere near that seniority or longevity. to each his own though. |
