Our CBA doesn’t say anything about an act of god. It says “circumstance over which the company does not have control”.
From Spirit’s 2019 annual report: “Airlines are often affected by factors beyond their control, including: air traffic congestion at airports; air traffic control inefficiencies; major construction or improvements at airports; adverse weather conditions, such as hurricanes or blizzards; increased security measures; new travel related taxes or the outbreak of disease, any of which could harm our business, operating results and financial condition. ... Similarly, outbreaks of pandemic or contagious diseases, such as Ebola, measles, avian flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), H1N1 (swine) flu, Zika virus and Coronavirus, could result in significant decreases in passenger traffic and the imposition of government restrictions in service and could have a material adverse impact on the airline industry. ” I would bet the company’s position is that they are not obligated to provide furlough pay. okay let’s ask this the other way around. Let’s list some examples when they company would have to pay. |
Say they got a really sweet offer from airline “x” for 15 320’s. They take it and make some cash on the deal. Now they have to furlough crews because they are over staffed. That would do it. But you may as well look for unicorns to get furlough pay. Not many circumstances that could force that

What people seem to fail to understand is that the virus did not collapse the economy, the government did. The words being used on the public are carefully chosen by those writing and speaking them, to create a narrative that the public has a common enemy which is the virus, and the only way to combat it is through mass life-altering decisions by those in power. travel was steady even with the virus going on, demand didn’t suddenly vanish, in fact demand is still high with people wanting to go places, but they are prevented from doing so because the government has shut everything down. The government isn’t a god, and therefore this should’ve qualify as an act of god causing furloughs.
Though I’m sure it’s a losing argument. It probably would also be better for theists to stop writing legal matter since “an act of god” only applies to them. |

It is interesting to see how quickly politics is thrown into the mix. This statement is right up there with “guns don’t kill people”. I’m pretty sure that none of us have PhDs in science (or political science for that matter). It would serve us better to leave this type of blame game philosophy out of arguments.

I don't have a PhD, so I don't get an opinion.

I wonder about the guys and gals who keep trying to shutdown commentary because pilots aren’t experts in <insert subject here>. It must be awfully quiet on their flight decks save for airplane conversations.

Some of the biggest morons I've ever met had PhD's. Not to mention one professor that was an open anti semite and another that would bash the United States every lecture. Taught me a valuable lesson. Made me want to scrape my skin off after every class.

Professors are as weird as they come. I have a few that live in my neighborhood. Every HOA meeting they make stupid liberal comments. It’s like there just pandering to impress people.
