Easy there killer, we have our own negotiations to focus on, whether that’s stand alone or a joint CBA.
We’ve thrown a lifeline in the form of early opening, which it is doubtful they will grab, but then they have to explain to board and shareholders down the road how growth is stunted due to attrition, and recruitment is down due to pay, and they had an opportunity to remedy this and ignored it. Yes a merger makes this moot, however we still have 18-24 months to run stand alone and planes keep coming. |
The regionals are getting their sh!t together. They want to stem the flow of their pilots leaving for LCC or ULCC. What better to pay them better than our FO's at Spirit, Frontier and Blue and give them a flow that will transition to a job at the legacy's within 5 years. If the legacy's really want to do a two prong approach, they could really ramp up hiring our FO's away. Our attrition is up and will continue to be unless they plug the dyke.
The only downside to the regionals is the work rules. But if your a new pilot with sights set on a legacy, this is they way to go. |

Legacy and regional airline management are adapting and responding, so far nothing at NK, F9 or B6. At least not directly. I do think the merger work is at least in part about pilots.

Should totally fix the problem. Like trying to fix a leaking beach ball using only a sharp knife. Should totally work. |

off topic but on that note, I’ve always been convinced I could dig my way out of a hole. If you use the shovel and widen the hole, you’re accumulating new dirt. Allow it to fall under your feet and keep widening, thereby raising the floor. You don’t have to dig straight down and the dirt isn’t going to disappear. Just dig sideways. You go from a well to a shallow swimming pool.

While that is an issue that affects pilots schedules/lifestyle, and yes attrition has been around 5-6% year to date. While that loss equates to higher training and recruiting costs, we are still net positive for total pilot count. Obviously that is not ideal long term, but to make a blanket statement that we don’t have enough pilots to “fly what we have” is a misnomer. |
