Could Spirit theoretically afford to do a 20% pay raise across the board for all pilots and then double the first year FO pay in order to address the attrition problem?
I ran some numbers and came up with a cost per year to increase pilot pay 20% being a hypothetical 75 million. If my numbers are remotely in the ballpark does Spirit have the ability do do that or is the money just not there? I'm guessing the money isn't there unfortunately. Below is how I came up with the 75 million per year number: According to statista.com Spirits profit margin in 2019 prior to the pandemic was 8.75% and their operating cost was 3.2 billion (google search) so that puts their 2019 profits at 280 million. I took the 5 year First Officer and Captain pay ($137 and $221) and multiplied that by 20%, then multiplied by 72 hours a month for 12 months. 3018 pilots total per airlinepilotcentral and assuming a 50/50 split b/w First Officers and Captains it came out approximately 90 million per year. Since I don't know the numbers of Captain to First Officers (I'm assuming there are more First Officers), I then adjusted that 90 million dollar number down to 75 million per year. Also, the Sprit Union would have to agree, Spirit is trying to buy A320NEO bc of their 16% increase in fuel efficiency to cut down on operating costs, they are waiting on the JetBlue/Frontier merger, etc...I'm not a business analyst or anything like that, so again these numbers are just a guess but it does appear that a pay increase for pilots will significantly cut into their profit margin. |

The company cannot put you in any Uber. I’m talking about doing your own transportation when they don’t provide it. Alpa was addressing a situation where transportation is not provided and you call scheduling and they offer to get you a Lyft or Uber. That is not acceptable. When it comes to transportation I don’t even give scheduling a chance to solve the mistake I’m already in my own transportation bc they take forever

Pilots don’t need to rationalize what the company can afford or not. Let them run their business. First of all 20% isn’t even in the ballpark but I won’t go into it deeper than that. Let the negotiating committee do their job. This is standard Spirit/Frontier. They want us to be the lowest paid period. They don’t care if they get less experienced pilots. They don’t have any other plan than delay and stall for years to get the lowest paid pilots in the U.S.

What’s the point of the company fixing anything if we’re just going to keep fixing it ourselves?

Uber X doesn’t carry the same insurance level as Uber black. Joes Toyota Corolla is not acceptable crew transportation. You’re on a business trip and are REQUIRED to be provided a professional transportation service. If that is not provided I’ll be replacing with a “professional” service. A limo company, taxi service, Uber black meet this requirement. Uber X does not
I also don’t do cabs because they are small, disgusting, and the driver always complains about the fare |
