Company email from Bendo

Really, no one is talking about the company email from Bendo?

Because we’re still in shock?!

JulesWinfield 12-29-2021 03:58 AM

Maybe they figured out paying 200% is cheaper than a systemwide meltdown. Open time disappeared in my base pretty quickly.

I mean yeah, its great I guess. Only downside is I dont have much hope that this will actually change anything and is just a bandaid.

cantflylist 12-29-2021 04:05 AM

Maybe they make it permanent

Hopefully this shouldn’t be a long term wave, if the majority of these call ins are in fact covid related. I have heard the FA side is getting hit hard with sick calls; and they were already understaffed going into this wave. At least it’s the entire industry.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the extra New Years cheddar in my check.

FivepointSlow 12-29-2021 04:39 AM

What’s the catch? This isn’t very Bendover… maybe his job is finally on the line due to all of the IROPs (fingers crossed)

you GUESS making double pay is great? For me ill make extra 27 hours of pay over the next 5 days. Have you seen how many X list calls have been going out ? This is a tough time of year staffing wise on a NORMAL year.. due to staffing and Covid this is a crazy few weeks. Sick calls are coming in faster than they can pick up the phones. And having a small
army Calling hundreds of crew members daily to offer 200% seems inefficient to me. I think this was an affective move to keep butts in seats during a tough weekly stretch. I personally think This was a sound business decision and is separate form the larger issue of pilot staffing that will manifest in unforeseen ways for in the coming months. This is to keep airplanes in the air for THIS week. Airline stays up and running and those of us working make extra cheddar. It’s a win-win. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

I agree. They might be realizing their stubbornness to open their wallets to prevent further meltdowns is needed.

Look how often they offer blanket 200% on the FA side for pickups and how selective it is on the pilot side. Bendo said that’s because it just causes pilots to pick up at 200%, making those coverage days green, and guys drop, putting them right back int their hole again. Maybe they are figuring it out that if you incentivize not calling out, you don’t need to scramble filling trips at 200%

Voski 12-29-2021 05:19 AM

I still don't know why they RARELY mark open time as premium that's not X/Y list. It would solve virtually all of their pilot staffing issues.

FlyGuy2002 12-29-2021 05:21 AM

It’s seemed to have worked. All the opentime has vanished. And paying a FA double is what $75/hr . Paying a captain $500/hr is a bigger hit financially. But the amount of 200% trips going out has been almost unprecedented anayway.. just carpet bomb all work groups with extra pay.. and survive the week the best they can. January and February are notoriously slower month so I don’t see this as being systemic .
more of a Covid/holiday crush. Things will return to normal in January.. but this upcoming summer .. it’s Gonna very interesting.

Haha. I was going to reply but it’s like picking on someone who doesn’t know better.

FNGFO 12-29-2021 06:11 AM

What Bendcon level hits the premium pay option? Off scale ?

like someone who knows it’s been said both ways?

If you think about it it actually makes more sense to say you could care less meaning you have less of a desire to care about the subject in question.

if you couldn’t care less then that means you do have some care about the subject in question because you are indicating you’re willing to care more about it.

Couldn’t care less=so you need to care more.

seems like you don’t know better....

symbian simian 12-29-2021 06:38 AM

Back to the subject we do care about, SWA did something similar starting a week ago. Their premium is 150%, JA 200%, for the holidays it’s 150% for all regular flying, and 200% for premium, but 100% if you call out…. Sofar it worked there.

I’m am shocked that there are still trips available in open time!

I can hear a bunch of old geezers saying “Man I don’t check my company email, screw that crap!”

they probably have no idea what’s going on.

LloydBraun 12-29-2021 07:30 AM

So what’s the catch here. I pick up a trip in the beginning of the month at 200% am I penalized for dropping my next trip on the 10th. Seems to good to be true. Seems like everyone would pick up now and drop mid month trips and still be ahead of the game.

Halon1211 12-29-2021 07:36 AM

well yeah you could drop. but why not just make even more money

LloydBraun 12-29-2021 07:39 AM

Well I’m a really really lazy guy. I’m all about same pay for less work.

Crazy how a year-ish ago we we’re “all in this together” and all deeply concerned for our airline and future, and now here we are 😂😂. This industry is wild…. Much love for our dysfunctional group. Happy New Year err’body

Thank God that many of us aren’t that desperate.

Okay here’s a question. The email says all flights flown. What about DH’s?

And what about, IOE, OE, reserve assignments flown, and 200% on top of 200%??

Ed Force One 12-29-2021 08:20 AM

Well, some things still don't change. I just called Scheduling to pick up an open trip 2 days - 1 minute out and got denied.

I said "You're that desperate but still won't give me the trip?" and she said her supervisor said just go X list yourself."

Insert "At least you tried" Simpsons meme here.

not trying to be negative Nancy here. but do you think the company is trying to circumvent the MOU by calling it “Holiday Pay”?

I could honestly see this going to some kind of grievance. and not getting paid out till like year year down the road.

I can assure that 200% of reserves will get fuccked somehow.

Reserves get 100% towards guarantee and 100% on top. So if you fly a 25 hour trip, you're getting an extra 25 hours of pay.

Where is that spelled out? The MOU specifically states 200% of their regular hourly rate. It doesn’t say, where I can see, that reserves get credit stacked on their guarantee.

I know a FAQ is forthcoming. Hopefully addresses these questions

To be fair I think that is more of a contractual requirement than anything. I am sure they would just love to hand them out and be free of them but then would get their hands slapped by the Union by not offering them through X-List order.

I’m really desperate! You should see what I have to pay every month towards my car loan for my Miata, pet insurance for my 4 cats (Sprinkles, Fufu, Mr. bubblesworth, and Steven). Not to mention the alimony for my crazy ex-wife that is sleeping with my brother.
