Spirit - Frontier Merger Terminated

“Spirit and Frontier have agreed to terminate the merger agreement. Spirit continues to be in discussions with JetBlue and expects to provide an update in the coming weeks.”

Going blue? Staying put? Is that even an option? Are synergies a thing of the past? Could we ever get synergies again?

yay a new thread.

LoopsMcDoops 07-27-2022 12:14 PM

If JB I'll stay but I'm working towards my options in rhe meantime. I have zero confidence our board will negotiate in good faith with JB. If they do it will come as a major surprise and if I have a CJO in hand by that time I'll have a decision to make.

Not sure going it alone is good at this point as our management seems disinterested in running an airline.

I didnt see this coming /s

Enjoy having bluedriver pop in here more than he already is to tell you all how good JB is and why you are lucky to be in talks with his airline.

Pop over to the jet blue forums and the topics sound awfully familiar, recruiting woes, high attrition numbers despite the year one increase, flight attendants underpaid., etc.

B6 may be a better choice of the two in a merger scenario, but I’m not throwing any parties about it.

We still have a lot of work to do and uncertainty ahead. Looking forward to trading synergies for culture.

That’s because alone they don’t have a lot to offer. Same as spirit doesn’t have a lot to offer alone (or w frontier). With JetBlue and Spirit joined and a new JCBA at or above legacy peers we will have plenty to offer.

Now they get to listen to Bluedriver tell them how awesome it’s gonna be to get stapled below him and how that’s the only logical option but still the best option for them at the same time. Not gonna miss seeing the clown around.

I guess Franke isn't such a big deal. You F9 guys are gonna need a new God.

based on BlueJuices previous track record in ATL… Doesn’t look good.

Lobaeux 07-27-2022 01:26 PM

Not sure it would make sense for JetBlue to buy Spirit and then close it's bases... a big part of the reason for the purchase would be the routes/gates in addition to the planes and crews. Getting rid of crew bases would reduce the presence of the airline at that field.

JB is REALLY cautious and circumspect about closing bases. They closed LGB while simultaneously opening LAX. And they are just now closing the E190 MCO base, because they are starting to stand down the E190 fleet. To my knowledge in JB's 22 years those are the only pilot base closures.

How does this work now that we are run by a group of people who very publicly said the JB CEO is a disingenuous liar and that the combined company would hurt consumers, be bad for the traveling public, and expect it to fail govt approval?

I mean, it's not like they said JB would be good but think Frontier would be better. I don't see how they come back from this. They sort of pushed their chips all in on Frontier and lost. Should be interesting.

Easy, simply pretend that it never happened. No one will care or remember after a few weeks. Everyone knows they were just using that as an excuse anyway.

It's just business. Sales tactics. Any big player in the stock market game understands and expects it. It's all good.

You obviously don't follow politics or the career paths of college football coaches.

Watch any presidential party debates? Then forward 3 weeks when they all drop out and suddenly all best friends. Imagine more of the same here

JB doesn’t care, they’re buying the entire company and probably cleaning house when it comes to the C suite. Hence why they were against this one.

I kind of like the guy and would be willing to sit down and buy him/her/Gozer/ze/xim a beer. Smart assery arrogance speaks to me.

I wish the F9 pilots the best in their careers, contracts, and home. We're all doing the same job and I hope I can look with envy at your contract someday. But I can't put into words the relief that I feel knowing that I won't be working for Bill Franke. I was ready to hit the 'submit' button today on several apps if this went sideways. I don't let work effect my home life but this F9 business has been a stressful drag on all of us. So glad that it's over.

I welcome Blue if that's our route and hope to Allah that we get new management if we stay it alone.

I agree with you except the first paragraph. Hope the best for y’all and my friends at JetBlue. Bluedriver’s arrogance is beyond unbelievable. He has some serious insecurities. Eventually our mgmt will have to be replaced so we have that going for us. Good luck to y’all. Happy we’re out of the **** show.

I feel bad for all the fll captains making 150 hours in the training department.

pilot124 07-27-2022 03:53 PM

Congratulations guys the drama is over. We will be fine here at F9 and I hope everything works out for both pilot groups. Let's all remember this was never about the pilots but rather management. We all need to stick together and try to get a contract others are envy of. Good luck to all and best of luck going forward.

I look forward to that beer. I'll buy the second. I'm mostly only an arrogant smarta$$ when the bear gets poked. Occasionally just to entertain myself.

For the record I said it back in Feb that nk and f9 would never merge 😘 filler

Just so you know, you only need the"filler" if you didn't type enough letters. The fact that the message itself is empty doesn't matter.

I feel very sorry for the FL based NK captains (7-8 years and under) that are soon faced with the decision to either commute to JFK, or downgrade to retain their QOL.

This is exactly what I was worried about. (I'm moving to FLL in October).

Ah, already trying to bait people on the forums before the ink is even on the page? Shame Aviary, shame shame.

No, Sir. Not trying to bait. I don’t have a dog in this fight, just some very dear friends that are extremely worried, and not just on the NK side, but the B6 side as well.

Sadly, as with any merger, lives are about to change. Merely expressing condolences, nothing more.

There almost certainly won't be a bump and flush, and nothing will happen for 18-24 months anyway. And the airlines will keep growing in parallel, before combination. Alarms are for babies.

This....☝️ And what I think will eventually happen is NK/B6 will shrink FLL and just move operations to MIA.
