Is there a good MCDU/FMS simulator that someone recommends or should I just wait for formal training?

Will I get much from it without a release or other data?

Don’t worry about studying the MCDU.Study flows and once those are memorized, then study limitations, memory items, and proficiency items.

You could get Microsoft flight sim. Idk if the 320 with the programmable FMC is an add-on or not, but it’s worth looking into if you want

Yes, we are parking planes and cutting our schedule because we can't staff. You get $1700/mo your first 3 months here, with no medical coverage. Year 2 captain at Skywest makes around the same as a year 2 FO here, and so on. The guy asking the question is in a financial crunch and has no long term aspirations to stay here, so he shouldn't come here. He should upgrade, get his PIC, and go to a major.

You do realize though fos are only averaging around 300hrs a year their first year. To even be eligible you’d need 1000 hrs which you likely won’t get till year 3 maybe 4 with current situation. Also skywest has like a 4 or 5 month ioe wait time atm. Can’t just look at pay scale and assume that’s really achievable. It’s not the whole picture. Can’t say for sure what the picture is at every regional but skywest and rpa are both in the same situation where new hire fos just aren’t flying that much and barely doing 8 hrs a month. As a senior fo holding a line sure maybe but lack of crew means less line and it’s going to take months maybe even more than a year to hold a line to even make progress to build the time.

No. Don't do this. You'll get training software on the ipad to practice. It's a cakewalk.

And stating that those aren’t permanent solutions and the company actually parking planes are not the same thing.

Some men…you just cain’t reach…

Hey! I have the oct 10th class as well. Looking for advice, I’m currently a new FO at SkyWest with around1600 hrs living and based in ORD. Would you recommend taking the spirit offer vs staying at SkyWest? My ultimate goal is mainline. I wish money wasn’t a factor but a big part of my paycheck goes to my student loan.

Go to Spirit. Chances are in two years it will be a “mainline.”

They may not be the best paid today but as Mesa has just shown past performance does not guarantee future performance. Refinance the loans, take out more if needed to eat, and live cheap…or all three. This is a short term pain for long term gain problem. Most of us did it. I slept on an air mattress sharing a room with 3 others for 2 years. You too will succeed.
