To stay or Go
Well, the Department of Justice got their way and the merger is blocked. Who knows if Jetblue will even appeal or if we will even win an appeal.
where do spirit pilots go from here knowing that our company is in poor shape? are you staying or leaving and why? |
Should have left from the start of this fiasco

The bonuses at the regionals will likely be going away in the next 6 months. The legacies are already slowing hiring with age 67, the slowing of airplane deliveries (Boeing sucks), and a backlog of new hires from 2023. Combine that with the 1500 hour rule likely getting dropped to 1000 hours, there will be plenty of applicants for the regionals.
Jumping to a regional now and taking the huge bonus while they are still offered, and applying like crazy to the legacies might be a really intelligent move. If the legacies don't work out, you still have the regional bonuses and good pay for a while. If you do get called to a legacy, then just pay that bonus back. Spirit will probably not be around too much longer. |

I definitely want that greedy Spirit Airlines to give me a portion of their profit. |

It will be another 3 or 5 years before regional hiring/staffing gets where they want it to be. Even if Age 67 passes tomorrow, it only delays the inevitable legacy hiring trends.. The regionals will be lean on captains for quite some time, only expect marginal improvement the next few years. |

1500 isn't going anywhere. At most they're going to allow more sim time to count to the 1500 for issuance of ATP.

The days of the regional FOs getting hired at the majors and legacies are quickly ending. The regional captain shortage is short lived and will be gone soon enough. |

Age 67, combined with a temporary slow down in hiring at the legacies and majors, will more than take care of the lack of captains at the regionals. Right now, every minute, hundreds of regional FOs are flying and building their time.

Unfortunately for me, I'm wearing Golden Handcuffs and pretty much have to stay.
I know most of what I post is negative, but it's simply my view of the industry after over 2 decades in it. I hope I'm wrong about everything I post. |

99% of what pilots post is total bias BS that fits their agenda. It should've always been F9 and we wouldn't even be having this dumbass conversation. Jetblue was ****ing in the wind from the beginning and very few would've actually left had that merger been with Frontier. As we all know though pilots like to talk tough but the reality is few are actually tough enough to follow through. There will be alot of scared kitten talk over the next few days then life will return to normal, maybe we'll even get lucky this year and merge with Frontier.
The big airlines didn't want this merger to happen. With a few phoine calls and large political donations, the big boys are able to squash things like this. It was never going to happen. |
