They probably couldn’t do much, they rely on folks that want to go the cheap route. It could be that the US market is just bad for the ULCC model. In Europe and Asia, ULCCs are like regionals where the pilots make like 3k a month. I think they rebrand and start full service or just get smaller and focus on profitable routes.

If you go back to 2019, yes.

They also operate in a market where fuel costs rise and fall, real estate rises, equipment costs go up, etc. All just like at every other airline. Figure it the F out is their job.
