If I downgrade at Spirit I might as well go to a Legacy. Especially since a few years into it I’d be making more than 12 Year Spirit FOs. And if I took first Upgrade for United at the year mark, I’d be making more than a 12 Year Spirit Captain.

Ahhhh, yeah I can’t help you there and that’s definitely a determining factor. All the best man, I hope you figure it out.

Latest rumours of 270 furloughs/140 downgrades and 3 base closures seem to be close to the mark
then? Looks like a ton of displacements if that’s the case…

I totally get it. I’m just really nervous about what’s about to happen. Planning is how I deal with stress.

No 135 is going to give you topped out Spirit FO pay or quality of life. The DUI will make it tough to go to a legacy, because Canada will likely ban you.

good point. I’m just wishing I would have stayed at my Corporate job now. Hindset is 20/20 I guess.

Anyone else hear about the downgrades coming? IAH Captain and looking at weighing my options between downgrading or between commuting to Florida. Kid headed into college so I can’t really afford the downgrade, but my QOL is about to tank. Just added a bunch of 135 Apps out there since I haven’t had ANY luck with Legacies calling me.

For those bottom Captains about to get displaced, what’s yall plans, commute, or downgrade to avoid commuting?

Do whatever it takes to stay in the left seat. Delta values the Command Leadership time more than anything. Most other Legacies have the same view point.

Commuting to reserve always sucks, but if you could hold LAS, it wouldn’t be horrible.

That one year upgrade ship at UAL sailed about a year ago. For the last 12 months, most junior upgrade awarded has been steady at around 5--6 years on property.

UA is supposed to go back to 2000/yr starting next year. Should that improve things?

Maybe, but the big factor in the rapid availability of upgrade at UA was the really cr@ppy reserve rules to the point that nobody was taking NB upgrades, particularly the commuters and at LAX, SFO, and EWR. Provisions in the 2023 UPA that took effect in the summer of 2024 massively IMPROVED that, to the point that senior people are now bidding reserve and the reluctance of NB FO Commuters to upgrade has largely vanished.

I hope so! It's hard to say...

We have MANY senior FOs (4+ years at the company) who regretted not getting their upgrade bid in before the music stopped. I'm an April '24 hire and missed the new hire captain thing by one week (one class). I would be surprised if I get an upgrade award before 4-5 years. Which is still vastly quicker than historical norms, as we all know....
