Not correct. The vacancy that closed in December had over 100 Airbus Captain awards in ORD and SFO going mostly from 12,000 to 14,500 seniority which are early 2022 and 2023 hires. Its just on pause now because we are still training all the New Hire Captains from last year that have their 1 year on property and once that pipeline is clear the NB CA bids will start again in November per Crew Resources. With 200 hires a month starting in November the vacancy bids will be fast and furious, especially since the 787s are coming a 2 a month starting in January instead of the 2 planes every 3 months we have now.

Not likely. There are still 500+ NB deliveries by 2032 plus 143 more 787s coming and that will drive a lot of upgrading over the next 5 years, not to mention retirements ramping up. I bet within the next 12 months we have 1 and 2 year pilots getting NB Captain again.

Well considering you said you haven’t had an offer from a legacy, downgrade or go to a legacy doesn’t really seem like an option. IMO if you can’t afford to downgrade that leaves you with no options. Either take the easiest base you can commute to as a CA or deal with the pay cut. Many of us junior people are feeling the squeeze right now but we have no choice. Get busy leaving, or get busy dealing. I hate it for you the same reason I hate it for me. never thought I’d be chilling on reserve 6 years after upgrade…

When this downgrade bid hits I will finally be pushed out of DFW. I spent all day hitting up my previous union reps for internals but I’m afraid a few check ride failures might hurt me. I really wish I would have taken the hint two years ago when the entire MEC started to offload. I can take the pay hit but I can’t commute forever nor would I move for this dumpster fire.

yeah squeeze indeed. I think some bases the upgrade will be close to 10 years or more to hold left seat. Wishing I never would have come here. Just put out apps to Skywest and PSA, my understanding is they still need DECs. Also probably gonna put out apps to Western Global, Kalitta, Omni, ATI and Atlas. At least my commute goes away with a home based ACMI carrier.
DEC than just downgrade to FO and enjoy better pay and quality of life? You should really get a pros and cons list and do more research before jumping into a worse situation. |

Im sorry youre in your position, I hated having to give up double digit years of seniority when I left, but I dont blame the union. I should have left 2 years earlier but that's hindsight and nobody's "fault" but mine. But when I read the 77 Vice Chairs fairway email and it basically said "this place is minor leagues and will never get better," that got me thinking. When the 77 CA, the ORD rep, a NC member and other MEC pilots left, that was the club over the head. |

The union literally sent out a message telling every Spirit pilot that each Spirit pilot needed to do what was best for their family, thats a big hint to explore options. When you see union reps leaving for legacy airlines, that should have been the red flag to explore options elsewhere. You think SPA ALPA can literally send an email out saying "We Are ALL FOOKED, LEAVE, LEAVE NOW." Anyone with eyes partially opened would have known for a while that this isnt trending in the right direction and tough decisions will need to be explored.
