True, but is that so special?....pretty much every airbus operator in the US pays better, apart from the two Indigo stained POS :p

For now... hopefully not much longer.

Not that it's a race but the TPA spells out a fixed timeline. Direct negotiations done by April/May at which point the pilot group will vote on the JCBA. If not, worse case is both mgt/ALPA take it to a binding arbitration in which case the JCBA comes via arbitrator. Regardless, it comes out in either case by a timeline process.

I don't think I'd ever put the fate of an entire contract in an arbitrators hands

There may come a point where that would be better than this dragging out endlessly for many years and then having another strike.

It's not the entire contract. Like nearly all recent mergers, for JCBA purposes the strongest/best merging airline's CBA is used as the template, and only 3-4 sections are opened to be negotiated to meet the expedited timeline. One example of a section to be opened is Section 3 compensation. So just the 3-4 sections are opened up for direct negotiation and worse case, arbitration. Both sides could have something to lose in arbitration. The rest of the JCBA is current AS contract. I don't bet in Vegas but if I was I'd guess it probably won't go as far as arbitration for any of the sections decided for open negotiation.

Hopefully scope is getting opened

I believe it's scope, compensation, and defined contribution (retirement). And a separate LOA for scheduling improvements.
