New hire questions
Hi all, have a few questions as an incoming new hire. I come from a corporate background, so all of this is a bit new to me.
1) Current wait for IOE? Stable, or increasing?
2) Any type of uniform allowance or company provided uniforms?
3) Any company discount on luggage? I know there are 737 specific bags without side pockets, but I hear that some outfits store their bags in a way that doesn't necessitate the special bag. How does it work at SY?
4) What is the new hire hotel? Kitchen arrangements?
5) How quickly do you get KCM/Jumpseat privileges?
Thanks!

1. wait for OE is anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Hopefully trending down as more check airmen get qualified.
2. when I was hired the pants and blazer was paid for. I think you pay for the first. They provide epaulettes and ties as needed. We wear metal wings on the outside of the blazer or leather jacket. You can buy the Karbon jacket if you want. You get new pants after 2 years, two pairs and a new blazer after 3. I’ve heard you can use the blazer allotment to get the Karbon jacket. Try to stick to the uniform policy. Lots of new guys look like Morons when I see them. The policy is there for a reason…
3. no deals on luggage. Get a sturdy bag. You can store it in the flight deck or over head bins. I use both depending on how I feel. I use luggage works bags.
4.I think the new hire hotels are extended stay places but I could be wrong. Maybe some new guys that have gone through training can chime in or just ask the company so you can plan ahead.
5. KCM and Jumpseat will probably be before training so you can get to MSP for ground school. Some new hires are going to Miami or Vegas for sims.
hopefully that gives you some answers you were looking for. Good luck.

They are putting me up in the residence inn in Eagan, seems like it’s right next to an Aldi and has a kitchen in room so a great setup. No kcm or any access yet but they would have booked me a flight up, I chose to drive to have a car up here. Starting class Monday, will let you know how OE delays are.

I don’t know the Self+1, so maybe someone else can chime in with exact numbers. I carry the health insurance for my whole family (self, wife, one kid) our premium is $77 per check for the high deductible heath plan, $35 for dental, $10 for vision. I put in $100 into the HSA, which is a bit higher than most would put in, but it works for me.

Dental self +1 is 17.88
Vision self+1 is 6.34
All per check.
Get paid twice per month 7th & 22nd.
If you want to contribute to HSA the max for family 2022 is 7,300. (+1000 if over 55)
