The noise you're hearing in the Diamond is probably the avionics fan behind the screens...there is one electric gyro in the airplane; the turn coordinator for the rate-based KAP140 autopilot, and it is BEHIND the MFD, so I'm not sure if you'd be hearing it or not.

Also, I believe there's two fans, one behind the PFD/MFD and another in the back behind the seats cooling the AHRS, so if you're hearing it from the back, that's most likely your source.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4_vI5ipBNs

theres the video and the sound im tlaking about is at 1:25, but i found out what it was...its when u fire up the master switch, it is a pump back there that pressurizes the landing gear system and thats why if u just had the electrics on recently the sound doesnt last very long because the last time u had it on, it just pumped the hydraulic fluid into the gear system all the way full. pretty intersting i thought.

I don't think that info is classified. Last time I had a security clearance was in the Navy.

The navy (which I am in) and the airlines have similar force-protection issues, with recent actual events and known current threats. This is not abstract stuff, I know someone who was on the Cole, and one of the 9/11 pilots used my AME...his picture is on the wall there.

We don't have much of a formal classification system in the airline biz, so we kind of have an informal, common sense approach....if a stranger on the internet, who is obviously not qualified on an airplane, asks how to access an external compartment on a specific model, perhaps we should not tell him! If he needs to know, he will get it in training.

I'm 99.99% sure you meant no harm, and weren't asking for access info, but the conversation was headed there.

Not on this subject I won't. Far too many people don't think it's for real, I guess you're one of them?

I was not trying to start up any negativity on the subject. Rick, sorry about your friend. All I was trying to say is that this kind of info is all over the place on the web and in photos on the internet.
