RNP AR is a great tool for "the very rich" to get far better access to some terrain laden airports. But, it's benefits for increased capacity are limited to nil at most locations.
SWA plans to have complex RNP AR IAPs at every airport it serves. RDU and BOI are early applications. These might enable SWA to save some fuel, but their ability to increase capacity is doubtful. And, at busy places like RDU, once ATC takes you off the RNP AR then back on, all savings are gone.

I thought the easiest way to increase capacity is to................Use bigger airplanes! If the demand is truly up that much, the airlines should be able to justify the use of larger aircraft. With all the unions etc... I don't know how easy that would be, but I have a feeling it will be harder than it really should be. But what the heck do I know, just a dumb pilot.

And, even in good times the decrease in frequency doesn't sit well with the businessman who is concerned only about his travel needs.

But honestly in this economy, I've been on so many packed flights I'm not seeing it. Maybe it's the flights I pick etc.., but in the last 6+ months I haven't seen more than 2 seats empty if that!

That's why if travel is that important, there's private/charter out there. I think it all balances out.

Most on business travel are not the wheels. Yet, they are expected to be productive and minimize their travel time. And, there are also family considerations.
I suspect a lot of the full flights you see are because the fares are still held too low.
