I'm currently in training on the 737 and am looking for a new headset. I want something small and light. Any advice would be appreciated.

Personally I hate headsets in jet aircraft. However the plantronics seems to do well for me. I would suggest getting the earmold and bracket bar from your local hearing aid technician (or whatever they are called). Since all they do is fittings, they do a good job at injecting the mold into your ear canal. I have had 2 done and never had problems with it. Otherwise you could go with the telex 750 which is also a lightweight headset that many use.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about getting an airmold one. How comfortable are they? I was looking at maybe a standard telex single sided as our ac don't have intercoms. Would love a music input, but most tso headsets don't have that option.

use company provided headsets. don't be a fool and waste your money on stuff that should be provided. what's next?, buy your own o2 mask?

A basic telex airman 750 works well. My hearing isn't so great, any more. I found that communications improved considerably for me when using a lightweight ANR headset. It really made a big gain in being able to hear and understand, and interact with a lot of different foreign accents.

I use a Bose QC15 with a u-fly-mic (yes, it's TSO'd now). On long oceanic trips, it's had the benefit of being able to pipe in MP3 music, which is a real plus for long legs. The headset folds up fairly flat in a relatively thin stiff headset case that goes easily into the flight bag. The battery lasts about fifty to seventy hours of use, and I always carry spares with me. The little green light begins flashing 10-20 hours early, and if the batter is changed then, there's no danger at all of losing the ANR.

It also has the benefit of being useful on deadhead legs. Don't want music? Just put on the headset and the world goes away. Or listen to the music or movie. Tired of someone sitting next to you trying to tell you the medical history of their dying dachshund? Put the Bose on and people leave you alone.

Why carry a headset instead of using the company ones? Because headsets are personal items that are a matter of preference, and in most cases you can do better than what the company issues. Just make sure it's approved and doesn't have impedence issues.

Don't waste your money of a custom ear mold. You will just lose it. Use the plain ear piece provided.

My military unit bought Lightspeed ANR two years ago. On the plus side, the audio quality is good; bluetooth works well, etc. However, Overall quality is poor. Most of them start falling apart after six months. (mic boom falling apart, cracked frames, etc).

I've switched back to Bose.

Speed Breaker

Can I get opinions from people that use the following headsets? I have access to both at a great price and am deciding on which to get. I really like the Clarity Aloft, but have always used standard over the head headsets and am a little reluctant to move to the kind with ear buds. I am really curious if they are worth the money and how they feel.

I am working for a regional right now, but am working hard at getting into UAL. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

I've got the Telex Ascend. It has ANR and it has the music hook up you are looking for. It is a little expensive though.
