Bombardier Q400 reliability?
#2
Only reliable as its MX and experienced crews. If the pilots know its quirks (dont touch the flap handle during start) and the mechs have the Q400 experience to fix common problems quickly as well as maintain it, it does ok.
The most reliable you'll ever see is Horizon..they'd be the ones to ask. Compare their dispatch reliability to RAH and it'll be a large difference.

Flew the beast at 9L and fly it at YX... The airplane has some quirks. A lot of issues we had at 9L could be fixed with the "supplemental resets" section of our QRH. It seems like the airplane is very picky about maintenance. I have seen many issues here that I never saw on the same airplanes at 9L.
Horizon is proof that they can be a reliable airplane.

At QX, it's pretty reliable, nowadays. When first acquired, it was constantly being subbed with a jet due to myriad issues. The Chinese airplanes we bought had the right mods installed (they clipped many of the wires to the caution lights- problem solved!)
There are still a few quirks, but no worse than other planes I've flown.
