I can only comment on what I've seen since I've been with TSA. (orginal 121 new-hire, Aug. 2007) (oh, and btw... NOT ex-Comair :-)
Now that I'm an FO again, I find myself sitting in the cockpit, nearly every single flight, waiting for something to do. I have done everything I can do without paperwork. Funny thing is, only CA can print paperwork at TSA. What a stoopid policy! What a waste of time! I worked for a Delta carrier prior to TSA. Every time we pulled up to a gate the gate agent was there, waiting for us with paperwork in hand. I thought it was SOP, but looking back, it saved soooooo much time! Now I twiddle my fingers in the cockpit while I wait for CA to go find a working printer and come back with paperwork so I can finish my pre-flight duties. Really? On a 24 minute turn we're gonna send the CA on a paperwork printer goose chase? The other thing I've noticed is that, at TSA, the last thing the CA wants to do is close the door. All passengers boarded? Check. Paperwork in hand? Check. "OMG, DON'T CLOSE THE FREAKIN' DOOR!!!!!!" Why not? What are we waiting for? Do we really need to wait to plug everything into the FMS before we close and drop the brake? Really? Why? So many times I've heard, "Oh well, looks like we're gonna be late again." I'm sorry to say it, (because I know I'll get chit) but Delta instilled an environment of, "On-time Airline." No one at TSA cares about on-time performance. PAX boarded with paperwork in hand? Close the freakin' door!!!!! Drop the brake and get this show on the road. The 5% of the time we have to open again and kick someone off is insignificant. But the on-time performance will increase drastically. Frustrated...

I think his point is that the paperwork should be waiting for us when we get to the gate.

The paperwork thing...back in the day on all sides American, United, and US Airways the paperwork was printed out for us and handed to us by the gate agent. United decided that it was better to have the flight crew to print it out which does have some advantages, but mostly has major drawbacks. Add in the fact that finding a working computer printer combo especially in IAD A gates and sometimes you have a better chance of winning the powerball. At least when I was there the FO could get the paperwork and it wasn't uncommon for an FO to print it out.
Door closing thing.... I guess this goes back a solid 5 years or more now. Back in the day the on time departure was much better. (thats all I will say about that haha) But one day I forget who it was either United, TSA management, or STL FSDO decided to start spying on flights leaving and would compare the posted out time with looking at their watch when the plane actually started pushing. If there was more than like 1 or 2 mins between the two then the Capt would get a phone call asking to explain the extended time between OUT and push... Also with the ACARS W/B there is a way for the company to see real time the corrections you make in the FMS (I know this because of hearing stories of guys that had to call with issues when ACARS W/B was new) so it'd be easy for them to spot an early brake release like that...I understand that the new TSA management is kinder and gentler, but back in the day this would totally be enough to get some one suspended or fired.

Ok, but his rant biotched about TSA, it should be pointed at United. Seriously, it is a regional airline, not one is high and mighty. If he really wanted to stick with Delta ops he could've gone to Skywest. The paperwork is not a TSA issue. Find something else to rant about.

Okay, okay, okay, I will go to the United thread and bich there about how TSA can't get out on time. Then it won't be so bad when "The Big Announcement" turns out to be a furlough notice because no one wanted to let TSA fly their airplanes. You're right though, it's totally United's fault. Totally.
I'm sure you know better, but I don't hear any ideas from you and all your experience. You tell me. How does TSA improve their on-time performance? Hmm? So easy to point a finger without offering any real input or ideas to improve.
SkyWest? Really? I hear Mesa has the quick upgrade right now. When is your class date?

Stop scheduling 5 leg days with 24 min turns.. That would help too.

Ha. Not biching. Just pointing out one of the reasons you have such a stellar on-time performance. Oh, wait...

The real question you have to ask is how does the performance compare against other UAX carriers. No one cares how they perform against DCI carriers. They don't have and will never have a DCI contract. The last time I peeked at one of those comparisons and if I remember correctly, TSA was middle of the pack.
