They have lists of scabs? So as long as i don't cross the picket line, and watch out for the interests of my fellow pilots, then i'll b fine?
Why would the pilots @ Virgin America b scabs?

 

There is a list, I don't know how "official" it is. ALPA does NOT publish a list and I doubt they keep one at all. I have the list. Many SCABS change their names, so it is hard to track them.

If you don't cross the strike picket line or fly struck work, then you will not be a SCAB.

Virgin America pilots are not SCABS, they may be other things, but not SCABS.

 

The copy I have looks pretty official though it does not say ALPA on it. CAL 83, 1,996 Scabs listed. It goes back as far as 1932...Century Airlines.

 

Well, in a simplified way, yes. However, there are a few operators out there that are not well liked amongst pilots in the airline world. Especially those that work under collective bargaining agreements. There never was a strike, nor a picket line to cross at said operators. And people that go to work there can get very little respect from their peers if they did choose to work there. One of them just changed their call sign.

Sadly, contrary to popular belief, it will have very little impact on their careers as a whole. Or, whether they make it to a major, legacy, or wherever they want to end up. Although many of us wish and pray the opposite was true. If by some chance the guy on the opposite side of the interview table ACTUALLY has a clue as to these specific operators, it may be a different story.

 

yeah some people really are clueless about the definition of scab. I work for one of those crappier regionals and have heard the term being thrown around about us. it's like, dude that's a serious accusation, just cuz my regional pays a whole TWO BUCKS less an hour than your regional all of a sudden we're like scabs? it's so holier than thou, really.

 

I didn't know it was this serious. I remember both my dad and grand dad some times refusing guys a jump seat on their aircraft.

 

Good for them, it's a shame that this isn't standard. For two years I commuted from what WAS scab central to what IS scab central. Many of the scabs never bothered to move. And if they were denied JS's, MANY of them wouldn't be getting to work or home.

Never saw it myself, but I heard that many of them wont even try the other legacy carrier that flies there. BTW, the other legacy had a strike also. That strike was not as long, nor detrimental to the careers of the guys that had the nut sack to walk (my dad included). And although that legacy had a shorter strike, and fewer scabs, they have a much more hard line stance against scabs. They would sometimes check to see if my name was on the list, which is fine by me. If they are checking for me, they are checking for other guys. And hopefully denying rides to those whose name is on the list.

There is a retired UAL CA on here who has a great story about flying from A to B and a bunch of scabs showed up to JS on his plane. Maybe he can chime in and re tell it. It's rather funny.

I remember jumping on Untied a couple of years ago, and when I did my ticket said "Check FOM." I share the name of someone on the Scab list, thank God he was born 30 years before me and bears no relation. But at the time they had a list of Scabs in their FOMs.

Most Scabs have crossed multiple lines. They are a true detriment to the industry and humanity.
