Polling Manipulation

Soon you will be polled for the first time in years.

Alpa leaders have a long history of crafting questions to get the results they desire.

Have you stopped beating your wife?

It is critical that the No voting reps approve of the questions.

How many pounds of increased 550 weight would you approve?
4750

Can you just head back to your own forum now?

Whatever polling/surveys they conduct are purely for optics. They will simply ignore them and continue to give Kirby what he wants.

If you get a call from a pollster

Tell them what you want and leave it at that. Don't get into some debate because they will use your words against you. Just like when dealing with a lawyer, say as little as possible. If you get a call it should go like this.

"Amend our current contract to include
a retirement plan that is company funded, pay rates in excess of inflation 20% minimum, reserve rule improvements, LCA/ PI rates 5% above DAL and a me too clause"

Thank them for their time and hang up.

Do NOT get into a discussion.

A long time ago in a former life I worked for a company that did polling. If they’re conducting a poll where they are asking you how much you agree/disagree with various statements this will likely result in your phone call getting thrown out and your voice not being heard. You don’t get statistically meaningful information by calling a % of pilots and letting them rant.

I disagree. All the reps will see the polling results. The strong reps who voted No can use this to hold the Yes voters feet to the fire.

No. Please let him stay here as it will cut down on the post I have to read from him on our forum.

SWA has done several of these phone polls over the last several years. They’re not conducted by your reps or even ALPA itself. They’re conducted by research groups, I believe the University of New Hampshire is one of them. You won’t be given a chance to debate with the caller, who isn’t a pilot, hasn’t much of an idea about what being a pilot entails, or even has an opinion one way or the other about your situation. It’ll be a lot of “On a scale of 1-5 how important is to you to increase your guaranteed number of days off.” It’s very sanitary from that perspective.

It doesn’t matter what the polling produces. United pilots are disappointed and disillusioned with the MEC and NC.

It’ll be easy to stoke that anger and resentment until TA2 (the do over) is released. The MEC should know it’s a much higher bar than the garbage they turned out in TA1. If they can’t figure out where they went wrong with the feedback from the past 3 weeks what good is a poll?

Bottom line, membership ratification is required on TA2 and everyone is now paying attention.

Ironically, it appears the CEO is stepping in to save the MEC from itself.
