But you can still hang out in your Borat bathing suit in your backyard kiddie pool while banging out 12-15 shortfalls a month.

Yet here we are, expanding a hub based on "connecting traffic", where the SWA model has thrived.
Not anymore. Over the last 7 years our COO at Southwest has been moving into a more hub and spoke style system. He likes the "synergies". Our terminals and gates are either mostly full or mostly empty at our big stations. The point to point short haul system is a much smaller part of our operation.

Ooof! There's not enough brain bleach (alcohol, drugs, lobotomy) to wash that picture out of my mind.

Big bid a few back got a 320 FO with 14 months on property into DEN. Not long to wait.

We are adding more gates on the east side of the C concourse and we would grow more if they could hire ground ops faster. We just passed over 1000 rampers and I think they need to hire 350 more. Denver is now a maintenance base for us and I wouldn't be surprised if Southwest doesn't buy or build a hanger. Denver flight ops says the base will be a mega station. Probably over 1000 pilots some time next year. We are flying full in and out of Denver constantly, AM's or PM's it doesn't matter.
I thought you would grow more quickly if you could only get more second and third year FO's to be willing to upgrade to Captain...oh wait wrong airline...

Good thing I get paid to fly these things and not decide where they fly- despite 40 years watching the business cycles and failed bright ideas.
Yup, probably good thing you just fly (like me). Your prescient commentary filled with certitude sounds about a decade behind the times and I'm guessing you aren't privy to anything like current realtime data that the head shed uses to make decisions.

Which is not to say that group hasn't miscalculated before (like a lot...).
It just gets a little old hearing the wizened old hands cherry picking a few public statistics, reminiscing about past failure and then expounding as if they possess expertise they likely don't possess....speculation I can bear, omniscience not so much...
I hope the DEN hub flourishes and management is right about its future, but I never count on anything in this fickle business...

Excellent, thoughtful first post. But, if you think BMEP is full of sheet, just say so.
