It also depends on the fleet... In the past year, not a single requested trip drop went through because of "no coverage".

On reserve on the 777 I could fly two trips, 60hrs, and because of the VDO system and short calls I could have 105-107hrs of pay for 8 days of flying.

Or should we all be limited to 80hrs? If 80hrs provides X number of jobs, why not make it 70 or even 60hrs of pay as a cap?

I post this with the caveat that no one is on furlough or there are pending furloughs.

It's been over a year since I've heard of anyone getting a VDO assignment in Dulles. I used to get one per month...but considering the current over-staffing, they've all gone away.

How common are VDOs in EWR?

I haven't been on reserve on the 777 in a while, so I don't know how often they are being used, but I doubt it is as often as it was a year or two ago. Plus the flying has changed a bit. I would get called on VDOs for PVG/PEK type stuff. That makes the add pay add up quite a bit.

Some of my buds on reserve now probably aren't doing more than 78-80hrs of credit with short calls. Then again, I know more than one that can count the number of trips they've been called for in the last 8-9 months on one hand.

Thanks; I wouldn't have thought of looking there.

Thanks; another spot where CCS isn't currently in line with the contract.

I guess about the only good way of getting extra time off is to take a COLA right now.

When I started in '96 schedules over 80 hours were rare in fact anything over 85 hours went into the "bank" and didn't get paid until the following month. We need to be careful about how "hard" we work because WHAT IF that data was used to increase the required hours. That, to me, would be a HUGE loss in QoWL.
We are in a competitive business, if we want a lucrative contract we need to give the company productivity to justify it. I do agree though it should be an individual option to decide where you want to fall in that 74-100 hr range.

How many days off are you averaging with the "tweaking"? Are you working your ass off or still have decent days off? I've managed to keep my average days off a month pretty high.

I like money..er.. my CFO does.. but I don't want to kill myself getting it.

(Don't worry, I'm probably junior to you )
It really varies on the month as much as 15-16 days to as little as 12-13, I try to get commutability, soft time and deadhead some months. Kill it, some not so much. Vacation month is when you can make some real bank, even though are union is trying to kill that for us.

Boy...think of how much more you could make if it wasn't for the union killing it for you. Again...must be a G-Tard.

im not a G tard, you might be a re tard.... The unions done great with very few exceptions, like my signing bonus, and being able to make extra pay in vacation months. I'm very happy with ALPA overall, don't assume you know anything about me..

Seven hundred and thirty seven crew scheduling, how can I help you co-pilot Barnes?

Continental was voted one of Forbes best places to work. Bid a month of reserve and see for yourself.

Probably the most overused airline axiom I have ever heard. The people who say this are, without exception, the biggest douche nozzles I have had the displeasure flying with. Oh that and "I fly pretty standard."
