This came from TK, we’ll see soon enough.

It’s to set realistic expectations.

here’s the thing the taining department at United is exceedingly expensive to operate and it doesn’t get cheaper if it’s turned off….the cost is the same….if not more. The instructors can’t be flexed to the line to help with summer staffing like some other airlines. Sure they can be given more fly days but then they go out and buy trips from line holders. Thise line holders can choose to stay home with pay or fly at 200%. That doesn’t help staffing and makes costs go up for line flying.

i think United needs to reduce their hiring, and I think they will, but we’re still talking about 1500+ pilots. It would be very short sighted, and that is one thing Kirby isn’t, to stop running NH classes for the summer. They should just run a few months of 100 there is no reason to be cramming 200 a month through if you do t have too. Make some wiggle room……

I have no doubt that SOME HFPD instructors were told they are not needed for a few months. But I will eat my words, and quite frankly be concerned, if NH classes stop. We are FAR from being staffed with a 1000 FO deficit on the 737 alone with new WB and NB coming in, with a couple 320 retirements.

If people are worried about "only hiring 1600" people this year, I can't imagine what they will sound like when we get to what ever size we end up being for United Next and hiring slows to only cover attrition.

An instructor? Because they're not privy to any more information about hiring than the gate guard at TK.

Someone from HFPD? I doubt it, because first, it's not true, and second, they probably wouldn't tell their buddies who they thought would then go scurry over to APC to talk about it.

Ready for Push Podcast is having a live Q&A session this Friday at 8pm EST with Justin Ritter. Maybe that is a good time to ask some of these questions and hopefully clear up some of the rumors.

Also, please remember, if you have a CJO and have to wait a few weeks, or even a month or two, this is a good problem to have.

Not so long ago, we had people with CJO's wait years for their class dates.

quick question: if there are 1000 more CAs than FOs, then why is the company letting new hires bid for CA? Or is it just that there are bases with way too many CAs and also bases (SFO, EWR, etc) with too few CAs?

like I said we aren’t hiring for 2024 flying we are hiring for 2025 summer flying. We have hundreds of CAs right now on delayed activation status due to not having the time to upgrade. They are included on the CA list though they are not staffed and won’t be for months.
