First post...so treat me gently :).
Hypothetical situation - you want to be domiciled in Chicago and had an offer in hand from both American and United: 1. What is the relative seniority of the ORD domicile within each airline and 2. Best educated guess on which airline has the best opportunity for moving up the ranks of seniority at ORD most quickly. Realize that part 2 is a bit of a "crystal ball" question but invite educated opinions. Even uneducated ones are welcome as long as they are funny. Also realize that you might be only able to speak for one, not both of the companies wrt seniority but appreciate any info out there. Thanks! |

Nope...no offers. Idle hypothetical question. Mulling a career change from corporate to airline. Appreciate any insight. Trying to understand how senior the respective pilot pool is at ORD domicile. From a different posting it sounds like American is very senior in Chicago.
The odds of you getting job offers at the same time from AA and UA are close to zero coming from a corporate background. If you were mil the odds would be better but still relatively low. Typically the airline picks you, especially as a civilian, even in these times. |

Prognosticating on whether American or United will be a better choice in ORD is a fools game. You can rest assured that the major questions that will affect your career will have nothing to do with ORD, American, or United. The problems will be cabotage, drones, a global depression, or some other equally separate issue far beyond your control.
Pick the company you like most. Live below your means, and THEN and only then will you be happy. |
What is life like as a reserve guy(90%) on the 756?
I'm thinking about a change of pace. I've never had to really sit reserve on the 73 in EWR, and would be a line holder on a NB in ORD as well. But I just don't know what I'd be getting into if I moved into base and switched to a Global fleet. Also, what areas would you recommend looking in as far as real estate? I am kind of familiar with the near NW suburbs (Arlington to Dundee) because of family, but Zillow has about ten million houses in our budget (<$450k) and target size (4+br, ~2500sq ft) within an hour's drive of the airport, never mind the 2 1/2 hour radius for reserve call out. Its impossible to even start to filter what side of town we want to look in at this point. |
