They could possibly be denied membership by the United MEC, but don’t expect national to really care either way. Alpa National is the same group that made the pilots at Polar sign statements to end the strike of 2005 saying that there would be no retribution to any alpa pilot who crossed the line. Polar pilots were all locked out and couldn’t cross if they wanted to, but Atlas (some, not all) crews were brought onto the field from remote locations to fly Polar flights as a “charter”. Hard to believe, but it happened.

So, back to my original question. In fact, I'll condense it:
Once these pilots leave this temporary fill in job at Avianca... and if they get hired by a major US carrier... will ALPA / SWAPA / APA allow them to join the union?

These scabs are NOT going to apply to a US carrier. They are all min 10,000 hour pilots with management and TRI/TRE certificates. They will all just stay in the expat community doing contracts in China or wherever the highest pay is where they can make 300K+. Why would they ever start over at the bottom of a US carrier. The focus shouldn’t be on these guys but on Boeing for allowing and endorsing these guys to fly for Avianca. Remember that Boeing denies they are employees of Boeing, even though these pilots represent themselves as Boeing, wear Boeing logo shirts, have Boeing IDs, get iPads and all other professional supplies from Boeing. Boeing should be punished and called out on this in every way.

Did you receive a bad personal phone call? Did the stock market crash?

Those are questions. I read my comment again and I don't see a question there so I'm confused as to how you thought I was asking anything. At no point did I disagree with your assertion that they would be disapproved. Although it might or might not happen.

My comment was not directed at you. I was just lamenting how as a group we often beat up on those who have SCABed an ALPA picket line or an ALPA authorized strike of another union picket line but let others who have done the same back into the union. I wouldn't let them in but I guess National needs the money.

Merger? Not really. Sure CAL gained the United SCABs. Some of those UAL SCABs wore pins. United gained the CAL SCABs and many of those wore pins.

I'm sure DAL doesn't have the problem with SCABs. Were any still on the property with the NW merger? I don't know. Did any of the few that SCABed at Pan Am in 85 end up at DAL? I thought I saw one on the cover of the ALPA magazine in a DAL uniform wearing a pin and being recognized for his union work. How many eal SCABs did DAL hire? How many strikers?

Not wanting to start a battle but instead just pointing out that it's easy to say we will not allow them in but it doesn't always work out that way.

Peace out.

1998 the airline was shut down for three weeks
No scabs....do some research of your own

But again a scab is a scab and a scab will always be a scab regardless

I'm not following. What airline shut down in 1998? Not sure how it relates to my post.

Agreed .... a SCAB is a SCAB.

Northwest. Got it. Not a surprise.

I have no doubt that the NW pilot group strengthened the DAL pilot group union wise.

I was pointing out DAL deeds of the past that is part of your present group. Deeds that probably would not have been tolerated at NW. In the future? Who knows.

You must be an original rattlesnake ... always quick to strike ... here as well!

Yes, I figured that also. However, you still never answered my question. Only Sniper was willing to speculate. It seems most posters on here are hesitant to comment on how ALPA/SWAPA/APA would see it.

While the whole thing reeks and these ~10 pilots will hopefully never show up on US soil, throwing about the "scab" term like "burn the witch!" might be inaccurate. Maybe not.

It's a litmus test.
Do they actually meet ALPA's definition of having crossed a picket line?
And would you be as vocal if this was from a small airline based in Africa?

Without having read this whole thread, being a replacement worker for a fired striker is close enough to me to be considered a scab.
