Basically on the June 4/5 class pretty much every unfilled slot from the last vacancy bid was available. For those considering the 756 as a new hire out of SFO or LAX, don't do it!, unless you live in base and really want to fly the 757. There is basically no 767 flying out of those bases so the pay is almost exactly the same as the 737/320. The categories are also much smaller so less variety of flying, less opportunity to trade, and your seniority will be lower than it would be on the 737/320. There is almost nothing better about the 756 except the aircraft itself is better to fly than the 737. You can always bid up to the 756 later, but it's better to get some seniority on the 737/320 and wait until you can hold 777 or 787 somewhere.

Being a Long Island local, currently swimming in the pool, I’m hoping for EWR320 for the sole purpose of LGA trips. Are the Bus trips THAT bad though to the point where I’d be better off crossing the Hudson 1-2 times per week for the 737?

It's the joke in the EWR Airbus fleet for the LGA regulars that we tell all the people senior to us that the flying is terrible. I'm a EWR 320 captain only since April 8th, but I do mostly LGA now because:
a) LGA trips go out and don't return until the last day whereas EWR A320 trips tend to be a lot of EWR-ATL-EWR-ATL layover ATL-EWR-BUF-EWR etc.. b) you get paid $94 extra "crosstown pay" for going to LGA c) LGA is slot controlled so delays are mitigated and when you land you usually get a gate right away and d) most LGA trips are 2 legs per day. My last LGA trip was LGA-ORD-PWM 19hrs PWM-ORD-PDX 15 hrs PDX-IAH-MFE 15 hours MFE-IAH-LGA done at noon. The bus out of LGA is great not to mention that as an A320FO the cockpit workload is considerably less than that of a 737FO and Fifi lands normally around 125 - 130 knots so no sweat landing on shorter runways like LGA's. I would say the biggest downside is the chance you will get newhire/newhire paired in initial training and the workload for that month will be huge. Don't know how common that is on the 737 fleet, but I hear it's become fairly common on the Airbus side. |
Looking only at LGA flying does anyone have a guess as to the breakdown 737 vs 320? Is it roughly 50/50 or does the Airbus have more trips?
What's the latest update as to parking at LGA? I remember there was something about valet parking while there was construction and people were ****ed so they did short term and expensed it. |

Thanks for the great insight. I’m a current Fifi driver at JetBlew so hopefully training wouldn’t be an issue. I enjoy the bus, id like to stay on it. Flew the 777 in a prior life and actually enjoy flying Fifi more....(provided I can get it. At 29, I’d likely be pretty close to the bottom). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Former B6
Training is no issue except on landing memo we say green instead of no blue. That took a while! |

30 percent of trips on the bus start out of LGA. +\- , changes from month to month.
You ll get plenty of LGA , most guys don’t want it , minus guys in your position that live closer . The add oat is a help when all your doing is LGA. Only crappy thing as a reserve will be doing the field standbys thus having to go to EWR for 4 hours . Although as a local reeerve you can bid short calls 2.5 hour call or on purpose to avoid the 4 hours at the airport . You ll learn that as time goes on. Addtionally as a local LGA Guy, when you do get a line , you should be able to get plenty of premium LGA trips . Many of the double paying trips are LGA trips cause they know many won’t pick them up . So they end up going premium . 150/200 percent pay. |
