Drink a few beers and answer the questions the way you think a good employee would answer them. It worked for me. When they ask if you think the company is out to get you, answer no. When they ask you if the government is out to get you, answer no. Your final result falls on a bell curve. Just don’t be an outlier, 20% on either side of the curve. Easy peasy.

I agree take it by your self , years back I did the questionnaire from Virgin America with my wife and failed. We both over thought it in our opinions and I consider her 10 times smarter and more sensible then me. But I promise it saw flaws and non rythmic answers.

Meanwhile I took the hogan during a layover , took 45 mins total, went back on two questions read them again and answer the same response and passed. I answer things completely honest. Sure I like people but not always in large groups like rock concerts etc. you could answer questions in multiple ways . That’s over thinking it . Read the question slowly, your first answer is most likely the correct one. Advice given to me .

For the love of cheese and rice, there is no gouge on the Hogan. Answer the questions. They're not hard. Do good people fail it? Yes. Do not good people pass it? Yes. There is no consistency. There is no strategy.

This is great advice if you want to increase your chances of blowing the Hogan.

Take it alone, use common sense, be consistent, don't be distracted, and understand that some questions are control questions designed to test your honesty in the process, (i.e. "I have never told a lie, I have never gotten angry", etc. Of course you've lied and been angry).

I never wanted to be a racecar driver and was honest about it on the Hogan.

The rest of this sucks because I'm waiting for the Hogan email and I actually AM a racecar driver. Damnit! I mentioned it to the recruiter too.

I took the test in about 10 minutes. At the time the instructions implied going quickly was a good idea, if I remember correctly. I read then, answered fast, and moved on. I took a similar test for a government position and did the same thing on it. I passed both. Went very fast, literally just a few seconds per question.

Before each question "In general..."

At the end of each question "...at work"

They are looking to hire a leader and a decision maker. They really don't care if you scuba dive or drive fast vespas but if you scuba dive or drive a vespa you better scuba dive and drive vespas for all 160 questions.

Again, be honest. I used to race sportbikes and race cars. I was honest, I passed. People aren’t failing because they live an active life. They are failing because they answer questions with what they think United wants.

Personality tests in general
 

The only gouge is to have some awareness about what personality tests are about (in general). Understand they aren't written by pilots, for pilots. You could do quite a bit of research on these before you take it.

There's no right/wrong answers per the design of the test... However, the customer (in this case an airline) can set the desired traits to whatever suits them. None of us know what those are, and there's the ability to move the desired target around. You (and all of us) will never know if we passed it by the skin of our teeth... or if we knocked it out of the park.

Consider all the advice you're getting here with that in mind. One person's sage advice (take it fast, be honest, take it drunk... with your wife, standing on your head... whatever) might be from someone who just barely got in... no one will ever know.
